

Melanie Fulenwider, age 68, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in San Antonio. Melanie was born September 18th, 1954, the eldest daughter of six children, to Leslie Jr. and Georgia (James) Fulenwider.
She graduated from Oliver Wendell Holmes High School in 1972. She attended San Antonio College where she received her undergraduate degree, and graduated Summa Cum Laude in Applied Arts and Sciences from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2000 and holds many law enforcement certifications. Melanie demonstrated a passion for law enforcement and served as a Reserve Officer, Jailer, and Peace Officer for the Boerne Police Department, where she was the first female police officer. She also served in the Bexar County Sherriff’s Office, the San Antonio Police Department, and later as a San Antonio Municipal Court Bailiff until her retirement in 2019.
Melanie was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Jr. and Georgia; eldest brother, Leslie III; and her precious Maggie. She is survived by her long-time partner and love of her life, Linda K. Liberto. Siblings include Mary Claire Carlson, Mary Elizabeth Wallery and brother-in-law Randy, Melissa Sampson, August Fulenwider, and numerous nieces and nephews who were very dear to her heart; Paige Fulenwider, John Fulenwider and Toni, Melissa Straub, Sandra Stewart and Mitchell, John David Bowen and Michelle, Christopher Bowen and Erika, Annie Wallery, Emma Wallery, and Hannah Goff and Blake.
Melanie had many interests, and first and foremost caring for Linda. She loved cowboys, and music, spending time on her ranch with Linda, reading and college football. She was a die-hard UT Longhorn fan. She also had a passion for many charities, and supported ASPCA where she adopted Maggie Liberto Fulenwider, her beloved Boston Terrier. She had many friends and extended family members whom she adored.
