A truly wonderful person and a gifted educator. So many students were blessed to have her as their teacher.

I was so fortunate to have known her. She was my parent’s neighbor for many years and always kept an eye on them as they were older. I always knew she would alert me if I needed to know something immediately. 
What a sweet, kind and devoted teacher and citizen of this city . My life was richer because of her. May she rest easy and in peace.

I took Algebra I and Geometry with Miss Wisakowsky in 1976 and 1977. She was an excellent teacher, hard but fair and with a great sense of humor. Sometimes, on a pop quiz, she would offer one point extra if you could spell her name correctly. 

Math was not my best subject, but Miss Wis made it as comprehensible as possible for me. She was a vibrant, vital person who took a personal interest in her students. When l graduated in 1980 Miss Wis, a gifted needle worker, presented me with a laundry bag l could take to college. On it she had embroidered my initials in beautiful script. I used it daily for over 20 years and it still hangs in my closet. 

Mis Wis was truly one of a kind. I will never forget her.

We are glad to have had the opportunity to recognize Mercille’s amazing achievements last year at Reunite at Heights, where she received the Lifetime Educator award and was inducted into our Hall of Fame. Miss Wis will be greatly missed, but her legacy will live on.

She was a fabulous math teacher. She never gave up on me.

“Unwavering belief in their potential” - perfectly stated! I had Ms. Wis for trig which, for me,  was extremely difficult. She helped me believe in myself. I also have wonderful memories of working with her on the graduation committee. She is a treasure!

My condolence to her family and friends. I had the pleasure of being her student for three years at Alamo Heights High School. She was a wonderful teacher and loving person.

Miss Wiss was more than a mentor to me — she was a compass, a steady hand, and a source of quiet strength. Her belief in me changed the way I moved through the world. Losing her feels immeasurable, but so does the gratitude for having had her in my life. My deepest condolences as we honor a woman whose impact will never fade.

Mis Wis, what a wonderful soul. I was never her student (I didn't have what it took!),  but she taught my brother and sister. And years later, it surprised me when she recognized me in the Bakery. How did she know ME? It takes a special kind of teacher to recognize and know students - current, former, and even former rando kids she saw in the halls. She was a teacher in the noblest sense, who took the time and really cared.  Many of my smartest HS friends have gone into teaching as a career - you can tell Mis Wis influenced their drive and style.  She was a maestra.

Mercille  was not just a math teacher, but an inspiration, a helper, a friend. She made such a differencee in my life but as well with our children and our beloved dog with whom she doggy sat. She was joy and intelligence rolled into once fantastic woman.We miss you! Love all the Lovells

Miss Wis- 
What a treasure you were and always will be.  There’s so many memories. I will never forget most of which had to do with math and as you are fully aware, I have forgotten those…… but your patience and gentle humor already knew that. Trying out for Caledonia and having you be one of the judges brought me such a calm confidence.. 
years  later- I admired you and loved you as a friend.   I am so incredibly grateful that AHISD honored you as a lifetime Hall of Fame educator.
I know where you are. I know you were at peace and loved and I will see you again and I can almost guarantee even in heaven. I probably won’t understand algebra.
