I just found out of Dr. Bloom's passing.  I worked with him in the early 90s, and he became my eye doctor from then on.  He was a wonderful person, and someone I respected very much.  I had one last visit with him before he retired, and so enjoyed seeing him again.  I will miss him a lot.  My thoughts and prayers to his family -- he spoke of them often.  Marsha Robinson

My dear friend. I did not find out about your passing until two months ago. It has taken me this long to comment because I wasn't sure what to say. I was a store clerk and you were my customer at Blue Diamond. You always asked about my life. You always encouraged me. You supported me with kind words when I went to New York. We had lunch once and it was great. We may have met at work but you were my dear friend. Whenever I saw your name on the caller ID. I made sure I was the first to answer. You always said, "take care of yourself".....every time you left. I wish I had more time to be your friend. I wish I had some reason to hug you the last time I saw you. You shook my hand so hard. I should have seen what that meant. I am happy I knew you .  I am happy you are with your soul mate. I know it was hard being without her. You are an amazing dad and person. I love you. Thank you for believing in me. Until we meet again...

It is with great sorrow that I have learned about Dr. Bloom‘s passing. There was no one more generous and loving than this man. He was a huge part of my professional life. Some of my most proud and fond memories of my professional career are due to him. Building the vision therapy practice along with him and changing so many lives will forever be part of my most proud moments. To Kira, Bradley and Craig, I offer you my most heartfelt condolences. Dear Craig, Bradley and Kira,  My son Noah was a patient of your father's. He was successfully treated for Ocular Motor Dysfunction six years ago. Your dad was very kind and assuring as he tested and diagnosed Noah. And he was right about the therapy. We both felt encouraged and cared for by Dr. Bloom and his staff. The work he did was life-changing for Noah and many other kids who would've thought themselves dumb and deficient without the help your dad offered. We know you will miss him very much. Here are some photos that we have of our dear friend Mervyn Percy Blum. Mervyn was smiling and laughing and caring back in 1972 at Bikkur Cholim Camp in the Cape. Mervyn was a councilor,  caring and giving love to others. (Black and white photos). His kindness, caring and love for others was constant throughout his life. In 2016, here is a picture of him bringing  joy and care to our mother when he visited the Chicago  area. Mervyn  was a dear friend to our family and best friend of our brother, Harvey Pollak (z.L). May his family be comforted with the mourners of Zion and of Israel. May his memory be a blessing forever.

Dr. Bloom was a Great, Caring and Loving individual. No matter where I was, if he saw me, he made it a point to come up to me and ask how I was doing. Not only did he ask how I was doing, he also asked how my family was doing by name to include my parents. There was never any doubt that he didn’t care about you. I’m so sorry for your loss. Dr. Bloom took care of my whole family for years in his practice. He was so kind, gentle, and caring. He always had a smile and wanted everyone to feel comfortable and loved. When my kids were little he had a special book that showed black and white pictures and then all the sudden the pages were in color! They were always mesmerized! And of course he would give them each a dum dum pop before leaving. He would let me have one too. He always bragged about his family and I knew that was his heart. You all were so loved by him. I had the pleasure of working and knowing  for Dr. Bloom at Pearl Vision Ingram. It was just he and I on the docs side and I learned so much from him about love for family, life lessons and positivity. His humor was endless and he always had a huge smile on his face. His love for his beloved Thea and his kids guided me into my adulthood . He became family as he met mine and I was given the gift to meet his. Upon relocating to San Antonio,  Doc and Thea met us for dinner at Bigs for a joyful visit where he met my husband and children. My heart is broken at this need. One of a kind  light that shined upon us!

Mervyn bloom was one of the kindest men I ever knew. His smile and good nature is something I will never forget.  Mervyn was one of those rare people that made everyone around him feel a sense of warmth and comfort and he connected with everyone from a young 19 year old college kid like when I first met him to an old poker buddy. To say he was one of the most popular people I know is a massive understatement.   If there’s one thing that I personally learned from him, it was his unbelievably patient and supportive nature. Growing up in South Africa with modest means, he showed determination and hard work to become a leading optometrist.  Even with all of his success he never looked down on anyone. That is a quality I admire greatly, mervyns credo of always treating people with respect and love.  I will miss him but will never forget him  -Ajay

What a genuine and beautiful human being. I'll never forget Dr. Bloom and am blessed and grateful for having known him.  One is not used to their doctor offering to run to the airport and give you contacts that you forgot at home and are too far to go back and get.  I was at the Austin airport so that didn't quite work ...jeje.  Dr. Bloom phoned a fellow practice at the destination I was heading and I picked some up on arrival. Mervyn was a contemporary colleague I knew for 35+ years. Each time I saw Mervyn he greeted me with his captivating smile and welcoming nature. Same greeting consistently each time over 35 plus years is angelic. Truly a lovely man, as he would say. He will be missed. My condolence to his family.

Solly and Mervyn met at Optometry School in South Africa. They were in study group together, came to Houston to get their American Optometry degrees together, moved to Waco together to work as optometrists for the Chernoff brothers at the Optical Dispensary and TSO and even accompanied each other to Jewish singles events in Dallas and Austin. Mervyn met Thea in Dallas and not long after they married, Solly met me at an event in Austin. Solly was Mervyn's Best Man and Mervyn was Solly's Best Man... and although we moved to California and they moved to San Antonio, the connection of friendship was never lost

Mervyn was not only a colleague but a long time friend.  I always enjoyed his company and we often sat together at continuing education events so we could catch up and share our meals with each other.  Mervyn had only kind words for everyone.  He smiled all the time and made everyone around him feel special.  I was fortunate to talk to him about a month ago.  Despite his condition, I could still hear the smile on his face and the optimism.  I will miss him.

Craig and family, I know what a wonderful father you must have had because Craig is a tribute to him. I pray that you can find comfort and that his memory be a blessing to you.

When Dr Bloom found out that every year my family would help a less fortune family at Christmas with clothes, food and toys he told me that he want to help and would buy a lot food for our family in need. I am deeply honored and blessed to have known Dr. Bloom. We became great friends at RSO.  He was a blessing in the lives of many, and I will forever carry him in my heart.   He will be greatly missed.

There has never been a doctor I have known in my 69 years on this earth, who has been so understanding, kind and professional. Dr. Bloom always knew my family members names and asked as to their  well being. He saved the eyesight of Detective Juan Campos, by calling at home after and appointment because he noticed something irregular. Juan had to have emergency surgery. Thanks to Dr. Bloom, all worked out well. What a blessing he was to us all!

My family and I have been patients of Dr. Bloom for many years. He was great with our children when they were young entertaining them with magic tricks. He managed to keep them smiling well into their late teens. It was bitter sweet to see him retire and we are deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Favorite of all my doctors we always shared a good laugh whenever I had my appointments with him I missed him so much when he retired .. Mervyn was our optometrist for 20-30 years. He was always very pleasant ,joyful and was interested in his patients lives. My condolences to the entire Bloom family.

Dr. Bloom was the nicest most positive person I have ever met. He loved his work and the people he worked with. But more than anything he loved his family. During appointments he would spend so much time talking about his wife and children. He loved them dearly and was so proud of them. He was a wonderful person.

I was 21 and found out I had virtually no depth perception and thus could not compete to attain a chance to become an Air Force pilot. I was referred to Dr. Bloom. His kindness and caring spirit was so evident, he treated my vision at a fraction of cost but what really amazed me was how much he cared for myself, my motivation, and my cause. Its been almost 9 years and I've since accumulated over 500 hours as a an Air force pilot, having flown multiple airframes and currently deployed. In life we get few chances to meet people who care more for others than they do themselves. Im truly honored and thankful to have met Dr. Bloom. Rest easy sir.

The world is a little less bright this day.  Came up on him once helping a friend whose car alarm wouldn't stop going off ... he was inside messing with the ignition.  I was in uniform and after winking to his friends I "ordered" him out of the car. My son was blessed to be a patient of Dr. Bloom's in the year before he retired. He made all the difference in my son's recovery from developmental disabilities with his vision. He was truly a godsend and we always looked forward to our appointments with him. His concern for my son was such a comfort and he was such a joy to be around. We found Dr. Bloom when we moved back to  San Antonio.  Our entire family were patients of his. Our daughters loved him. Sarah was six when we first brought her to see him. She was enamored with his "magic book" and loved it every time he brought it out. She's  15 now and when I informed her of his passing  she said , "I loved him and his book". Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.  He was truly a wonderful person and doctor.

We had some great times thru the years with your parents- Craig, Bradley and Kira! We miss them both!!!
