

Mr. Michael Kerry Grunwald, age 71, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on April 30, 2025, in San Antonio. He was born on July 15, 1953, in Denver, Colorado to parents, Eugene and Marilyn (Hughes) Grunwald, who have preceded him in death. Michael was a 1971 graduate of East High School and attended the University of Colorado – Pueblo, where he graduated in 1977.
Soon after graduating from the University of Colorado, Michael joined the United States Army. His distinguished career spanned over 15 years and many assignments including, Schweinfurt, Germany with the 64th Armored Division from 1978 to 1981; Fort Knox, Kentucky - DI Center School from 1981 to 1983; Illesheim, Germany – 1 / 13 Armored Division from 1983 to 1986; and Fort Bliss, Texas from 1986 to 1988. In 1988, Michael transferred to the Army Reserves and retired from the Army in 1992 at the rank of Major. Following his retirement, he transferred to MEDCOM as a civilian where he continued to coordinate the medical deployments of medical staff.
During his commission in the U.S. Army, Michael earned several awards and decorations including, Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal 2D award, Army Commendation Medal 2D award and a Meritorious Service Medal.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, Margaret Williams Grunwald; son, Steven A. Grunwald; twin grandchildren, Cadon Andrew and Colton Lee Grunwald; cousin, Dan Oxford; sisters-in-law and their husbands, Patricia and Donald McKinney of Robesonia, Pennsylvania and Betsy and Guy Peno of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will received friends and relatives from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E. San Antonio, Texas, with the Service to take place at 12:00 P.M., and Reception to follow in the Porter Loring Mortuary North Reflection Room.
Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas.
