Maj. Michael G. Gutierrez died at age 72 on 17 January 2025. Graduated in 1972 from West Mesa High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Enlisted in the USMC during the Vietnam War from 1973 to 1976 before an honorable discharge as Sergeant (E-5). Served with NM Air National Guard, earning his BoFA and Air Force commission from UNM in December 1979. Commissioned as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer from 1980 to 1992 until a Reduction in Force as Captain. Taught bilingual education PreK-6 with Cotulla and SAISD while in the USAF Reserves. Retired from USAF in 2005 as a Major with 32+ years of service, and then from teaching after 15 years.
He will be remembered for his devout faith, love of art, building train models, restoring antique cars, his gardens, wines and brews, and love of family.
Michael is survived by his eight children: Mary, Matthias, Raphael Sr, Gabriel, Elizabeth, Lucia, John, and Lilianna, as well as eight grandchildren: Nicholas, Brayden, Allayanii, Patrick, Kurtys, Robyn, Raphael Jr, and Ronan.
