

Michael is survived by his wife Anita Hughes, son Troy Hughes of New Braunfels, TX; daughter & son-in-law Tracy & Brendan Pohlen of Helotes, Texas; grandsons, Andrew & TJ Pohlen of College Station, Texas; sisters Margaret Hoggard of Noblesville, IN and Kathy (Richard) Phelps of Pensacola, FL; brothers Bob (Linda) Zeiss of Arcadia, IN, Parker ( Lee) Zeiss of Seymour, IA, William (Dee) Zeiss of Daleville, IN and Dr. Anthony (Beth) Zeiss of Charlotte, NC, numerous nieces & nephews and great-nieces & nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his biological father William Hughes, mother Mary Zeiss, stepfather Robert Zeiss of Arcadia, IN and sister Mary Jo Powers of Noblesville, IN.
Michael was born on May 23, 1937 in Arcadia, Indiana, to parents William and Mary Hughes. He graduated from Hamilton Heights High School in 1956. He joined the US Air Force after High School and served 22 years in various locations including Korea, Japan, Alaska, Kansas, Florida, the Azores and Lackland AFB in San Antonio , Tx where he retired. He then worked for the US Postal Services for 20 years before permanently retiring.
Michael was a great family man, loving and supportive husband, dad and granddad. He married the love of his life Anita Thomas in Frankton, IN on October 2, 1964 and the couple had 2 beautiful children together.
Michael was a social and active man who was deeply involved in church activities, a bible study leader, his children and grandsons and all of their activities for the majority of his life. He enjoyed fishing, camping with his family, traveling, making walking sticks for friends and collecting fossils and rocks with grandsons. His family and friends will always remember him as a strong Christian man ready to assist in any way possible, a caring and supportive person who truly and deeply loved his grandsons Andrew & TJ.
Celebration of Life Services are as follows:
Viewing is at Sunset North Funeral Home-910 N. Loop 1604 E on Wednesday, January 25th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
Funeral services officiated by Rev Boots Levine will be at Cornerstone Church-18755 Stone Oak Pkwy-San Antonio TX on Thursday, January 26th at 1pm with viewing beginning at 12:00. Burial will follow at Ft. Sam Houston Cemetery with full military honors. A reception will be held at Cornerstone Church in the Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the Life of Michael L. Hughes.
