To the friends and family of Michael "MAR", please accept my belated condolences.
 I attended school with him from 7th grade at St. Mary's Downtown and at Central Catholic. 
Some of my fondest memories include seeing him play the guitar at Friday mass and special school events. 
The holiday buñuelos that his family would provide were always enjoyed by all! 
Michael was known as "The Whooper" because of his size and formidable basketball defense. 
He also had a remarkably accurate inside hook shot. 
We both took turns as Safety Patrols at the street crossing on St. Mary's Street. 
Michael and I would volunteer to sell afterschool snacks for the field trip fundraising. 
Our class will never forget the trip to Six Flags and the shenanigans that occurred.
 I can hear the boom box playing Boz Scaggs Lido Shuffle on the charter bus as we road to Dallas.
 Michael's departure from Central left a void in my school experience that I never got over!
 He was missed then and now. 
I had hoped to reconnect with him later in life and recount our younger years. 
For the brief time that I was friends with him, I will be ever grateful.

'I work at Forte Rehabilitation and Wellness and had Michael as a patient many times. He was such a sweet Man and we will miss him very much. Condolences to his entire family and friends from the staff at Forte.'

'To Anthony, Carlos & Yolanda.....The Rios family and my family were neighbors as youngsters on W. Malone. I then played Basketball against Mike when he attended St Mary's Catholic School and then played with him at Central Catholic. I lost touch with Mike after he left Central but then reconnected with him at Kelly AFB. I worked as a civilian and would see Mike at the 149th when I worked Mobility Exercises, we kept in touch for a while but then lost touch, I had heard about his initial battle with cancer. I never got a chance to physically meet his wife and children but saw pictures of them, his passing is just sad and way too soon, but my parents Joe and Olga and myself express our deepest sympathy to the entire family Mike will be missed but will never be forgotten....RIP Mike.....Ernie Garcia CCHS'81....'

'To Mike Rios family and friends, sooo very sorry on your loss, Gilbert and Me had just went to see him a few days before he passed, we were so busy We have not checked our mail, we have known Mike through 149th, spent a lot of time together at the lakes with wave runners, my kiddos loved him as we did, so sad but knowing he is in heaven and watching over you all, we will take him some flowers this week, Gilbert worked daily with him at the 149th and said he was a great guy, RIP Mikey, we love you. 'Words alone cannot explain the grief that you are going through. I had the pleasure to serve with Michael Rios. He was a great example of a husband, father, co-worker but also a dear friend. Pat i went through the same thing...I feel for you, your girls, because in this world we lost an extraordinary man. At this very moment its very hard to accept that things will be ok, but i know that they will through prayer. Mikey will not suffer anymore and your heart will be at peace knowing hes watching over yall.....He was quite the basketball player he still wore a members only jacket lol we are engine shop, for life, but now hes part of an elite team and that pat and girls....is priceless on behalf of my family and self may you find comfort during this difficult time'
