For those who knew Mr. Stephens will agree in saying that lost a great person.

Michael was a devoted son, a helpful neighbor, a willing father and provider. He loved his parents and wanted to help them even when he didn't feel good. He was kind, patient, loving and sympathetic. Even though I am blind I could see these things. I could see through his eyes. He always appreciated everything that anyone did for him. He was an unusal man with these characteristics.

The Staff of REDCOM SOUTH Fort Worth, TX expresses their heartfelt condolences to the family of Michael Stephens. Michael served his country with remarkable devotion and distinction of which you can be very proud.

CDR Stephens was definitely one of the few mentors that had a great impact on my life. CDR Stephens gave me the name "The Little General" upon my detaching from San Antonio. It's always good to meet someone like CDR Stephens who is willing to take time to teach as well as listen. CDR Stephens saw something in me that I couldn't see in myself. Unfortunately, I was unable to tell him that some of what he saw in me I learned from him. I would like to thank the family of CDR Stephens for allowing him to share his time as a Sailor and knowledge as a Leader with myself and my fellow Shipmates. I send my prayers and condolensces to the Stephens' family. GOD BLESS!

CDR Stephens was a leader with love for family and shipmates. He truely was a great man among man. He will always be apart of the people who had the pleasure to know him.

Our deepest sympathies in these hours of loss and remembrance. Mike's humor, contribution and fellowship will be greatly missed by all of us in and out of the Navy community.

Mike was a very special friend, he joined our thurday 4 some The Gaggle for golf a year ago. He worked hard on his game, was a stickler for following the rules, and extemely competitive. His trademark "Big Blue M" on his golf ball and that happy go lucky attitude made him an endearing friend. In 20 yrs of golfing and meeting other golfers - I knew Mike was special. Mike was a friend & I will miss the "big fella"! Although I never served aboard a ship with Mike, I did spend 30 years in the USNAVY, & I truly consider him as a "Shipmate" which has a special meaning to sailors!
