

Miguel ‘Mike’ Esparza Jr., who was known for being adventurous, devoted, and thoughtful, passed away on December 9, 2025 at 11 PM, at the age of 85. Born on November 5, 1940, in Uvalde, Texas, he lived a life full of diverse experiences and significant contributions.
Mike pursued his education at Texas A&M- Kingsville and the University of Texas- Austin, setting the foundation for a remarkable career. Throughout his professional life, he wore many hats and made impacts in various fields. Known as a private investigator, Mike also became a funeral home owner and director in Uvalde, Texas. His commitment to community service was demonstrated through his role as the executive director of LULAC, and his commitment to safety and innovation was evident as a safety engineer. Mike had an independent spirit that thrived in many ventures, including running a travel business and teaching English to immigrants aspiring to become American citizens. In addition to his professional achievements, Mike proudly served in the Texas National Guard and was an honorable veteran.
Mike was married to Leanor "Connie" for over six decades, sharing a devoted and loving partnership. Their family was blessed with two daughters, Liza Estevez and Tina Esparza. Mike's legacy is further enriched by his four grandchildren, Clarissa Sifuentez, Jordan Estevez, Alan Estevez, and Felix Sifuentez III, as well as eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
In his personal time, Mike had an enthralling array of hobbies and interests. An adept musician, he excelled in playing the piano, guitar, and trumpet. His thirst for knowledge kept him well-read and computer literate, and his enthusiasm as a Dallas Cowboys fan was unwavering. Mike's adventurous nature was reflected in his passion for traveling the world, with journeys taking him to destinations like Brazil and Russia.
A visitation for Mike will be held on December 19, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, at the Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, located at 6321 Bandera Road in San Antonio, TX. The funeral service will take place at the same venue, starting at 7:00 pm, concluding at 8:00 pm.
Mike Esparza Jr.'s life was celebrated and cherished by all who knew him, and he will be fondly remembered for his vibrant spirit and the love he gave to those around him.
