Millie was the fourth child of Johan (John) Bernt Anderson and Selma (Danielson) Anderson. The day of her fifth birthday, she was delighted when her sister announced, “The teacher says you can come to school tomorrow.” She happily joined her three older siblings, walking 1 1/2 miles to the country school and from that day on, she never slowed down.
Millie graduated from Bird Island High School in 1944 and went on to Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota where she earned a B.A. degree in Sociology, graduating in 1949. While in college, she met and married her beloved husband, Duane, and began a partnership that lasted for over 74 years.
After their graduation, Millie and Duane moved to Denver, Colorado where a daughter was born. The next move was to Midland, Texas where their son was born. Those were the first of ten moves that would take the family to all three coasts of the U.S.Millie saw each move as an opportunity - first, to make a familiar and stable home for her family, and then, to meet new neighbors and engage in a new community. She was active in each school the kids attended, serving as room mother and PTA member. She was a Cub Scout den mother and a Girl Scout leader. She organized bridge clubs and dinner groups. With Duane, she became a faithful and committed member of a Lutheran congregation in every suburb where they settled, taking on whatever volunteer work was most needed at the moment.
Every summer, from whichever coast, Millie organized and packed picnics for a long family car trip to Minnesota, Colorado and Nebraska, nurturing close relationships with parents, siblings, cousins and their growing families.
In 1983, Millie and Duane began a new chapter - retiring to live in their dream location, Austin (Lakeway), Texas.
They made their home in Lakeway for 31 years. They gathered friends and family to celebrate summers in the pool and winters on the golf course. There was always an open house atmosphere at their place and Millie’s hospitality never wavered. She was always ready with food on the table, drinks in the fridge and a few games to include everyone in the fun.
In 2014, the time came to make another move - this time to San Antonio, where others could do the cooking and the laundry so that Millie and Duane could relax and enjoy the visits of beloved grandkids & grandkids-in-law, great-grandkids, family and friends. Millie loved those visits! She also loved looking at photos both old and new. Even when breakfast that day was forgotten, she knew and remembered her family and friends with joy and with love!
Millie is survived by her spouse of over 74 years, Frank Duane Flink; daughter, Dawn Silvius and spouse, James; son, Bradley Flink; by grandchildren, Erik Silvius and spouse, Elizabeth Hoyer; Peter Silvius and spouse, Jaclyn; Julie Magadance and spouse Steve; Joseph Flink and spouse, Annie; Daniel Flink and spouse, Cheryl, and by 13 great grandchildren and beloved nieces, nephew, niece-in-law and nephew-in-law. She is pre-deceased by her daughter-in-law, Eugenia Voges Flink, and by her siblings and in-laws, Donald and Arlein (Raitz) Anderson, Alyce (Anderson) and John Canny, Joyce (Flink) and James Mortensen, Lawrence and Alice (Dahl) Anderson.
