Mildred Ann Nentwich Galm, 91, peacefully entered rest and eternal life with her Lord and Savior February 26, 2018. She was born May 27, 1926 in San Antonio to Joe and Lenora Nentwich. She married the love of her life, Calvin Galm, on September 4, 1946. They farmed, ranched, managed their business, and raised a family for 63 years together until his passing in 2009. Outside of her duties of raising children and managing a chicken farm, she was an accomplished seamstress and cook sharing these skills with her daughters in their 4H clubs. Later, as a member of Zion Lutheran of Helotes, she prepared numerous quilted banners for the Alter Guild, participating in quilting competitions. In addition to work on their farm, Mildred worked for NISD at John Jay High School for 10 years serving in several positions in the administrative offices, always willing to help students with anything she could. She was a fierce bowler and enjoyed fishing, hunting, making sausage, and canning – fresh vegetables and preserves. Always competing, she enjoyed winning at dominoes, cards, bunco, and other games, but she also wanted her children and grandchildren to learn and appreciate these games. She loved attending her children’s events for 4H, softball, basketball, baseball, football, volleyball, and track, continuing with her support of grandchildren in these activities over the years.
She is survived by her sister Bernice Dunker of New Braunfels; Marilyn Noel (George, deceased) of Conroe, Connie Hayes (James) of Kerrville, and Garland Galm (Ronda) of Helotes; 7 grandchildren: Aaron Keeler of Pueblo, CO, Charlene Cessna (Bryan) of Magnolia, DE, Kim Davis (Brad) of Cedar Park, TX, Chad Hayes (Kyle) of Boerne, TX, Kelsey Kuenemann (Kyle) of San Antonio, Jacob Galm of Granbury, TX, and Zachary Galm (Ashley) of San Antonio; and 9 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church (Loop 1604 at Braun Road) at 2 PM, March 5, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Threads of Love SA (http://www.threadsoflovesa.org/donate.html) , American Kidney Fund (http://www.kidneyfund.org/) , or Alzheimer’s Association of SA (https://www.alz.org/sanantonio/)
