Milton Earl (Mickey) Travis went to be with the Lord on October 11, 2012. He was born on December 11, 1926 in San Antonio, Texas to Leon Edward Travis, Sr. and Mary Lou Crunk Travis. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1944. After a brief stay at Texas A&M, he hightailed it back home to the love of his life, Juanita (Nita) Scott and married her on December 1, 1945. From 1945-46, Milton served in the army as a private. His duty was to discharge service men out of the army at the end of World War II. After the war, he entered the family paint business -- L. E. Travis and Sons in partnership with his father and brother. In later years, Mickey ventured out on his own starting Milton E. Travis Painting and Decorating. And in 1975, M.E.T., Inc. was formed. Nita was his secretary/bookkeeper and right hand lady throughout the 30 years in his business.
Milton was a 32nd degree Mason in Lodge # 1079. He and Nita attended Jefferson Methodist Church, Bulverde Methodist Church (charter members), and Boerne Methodist Church. Mickey loved to build. Over their (almost) 67 years of marriage, he built eleven of the sixteen homes he and Nita lived in. He also built two warehouses, several barns, a Sunday house, and assisted in the construction of Bulverde Methodist Church. His favorite place to be was in his workshop where he hand carved birds of all kinds and built clocks of all shapes and sizes. He crafted cradles, hobby horses, china cabinets, children's furniture, tables, chests and much more. He gifted much of what he made to family and friends. Milton also loved his ranches and raised cows, horses, goats, and sheep. He loved the Texas coast and spent many happy hours fishing and relaxing there. He enjoyed hunting and made countless trips to Colorado to look for deer or elk. But most importantly, “Mickey” or “Daddio” was a wonderful husband and super father. He worked hard all his life and loved and provided for his girls in the best way he knew how. He will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, sister, Dorothy Olive Myer, and brother, Leon Edward Travis, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Nita, daughters Carolyn Elkins and husband John and Gail Lawrence and husband James; four grandchildren: Courtney Mayer, Lisa Runner, Marshall Masser, James (J. T.) Lawrence and six great grandchildren. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers at Morningside Ministries at Menger Springs, Boerne, Texas. An additional thanks goes to the Vitas Hospice staff for their comfort and care in Milton's last weeks. Pall bearers are Dick Jennison, James Lawrence, John Elkins, Brett Runner, David Mayer, and J. T. Lawrence. Honorary pall bearers are Alec Bowerman and Colin Mayer.
