Our Mother, Miriam Jones Ostrander, passed on December 10, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Mom was born in Macon, GA. on January 16, 1933 and graduated from A. L. Miller High School in 1951 where she was active in the YMCA (Teens & Chums). She retired from Civil Service in 1972 and from the San Antonio Express News in 1994, after 19 years as a district manager. Miriam loved to travel and had lived in many places, including Ft Walton Beach, FL and Macon, GA before returning to Texas, where she resided with her daughter, Norma.
Our beloved Mother was reunited in heaven with her parents, Miriam Wilson Jones and Norman Samuel Jones; her husband of 42 years, Bill Ostrander Sr; her eldest son, Clarence Ostrander III; and her sister, Marie Kendrick. She is survived by three daughters, Virginia Sedillo, Norma Mireles, Dolores Trietch; two sons, Bill Ostrander Jr and John Ostrander; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and many great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Her first love was her family and friends. Mom’s great love for us and big smile will be missed and live in our hearts forever. Mom enjoyed bowling, wood working and gardening.
The viewing will be Wednesday December 16th from 5-8pm at Sunset Memorial on Austin Hwy, in San Antonio. Graveside service is set for 10:30AM, Thursday, December 17th at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
