Smith, Miriam L., age 89, transitioned into life eternal on March 23rd, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. She was a native of Nebraska with a sweet tooth and an artist’s eye. As an avid jogger and walker, Miriam experienced the world at just the speed she wanted. She found comfort in CS Lewis books, and collected angels and beautiful stones. She was a vital source of support for many of her grandchildren, creating a safe place to land in her small Tennessee home with ample microwave popcorn, goldfish crackers, and the occasional rented video game. She put many miles on her Camry, listening to Rod Stewart and Luther Vandross or NPR, running kids to Kmart or the mall or church. Preceded in death by her parents John and Regina Hermanek, husband Arvin Smith, and son Benjamin Smith. Survived by daughter, Lisa Benjamin; sons, David, Mark (Joan) and Mike Smith and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings Charles Hermanek (VA) and Norma Hallberg (IA) and numerous nieces, nephews, and chosen family. Miriam’s family would like to thank Golden Stage Assisted Living and Sacred Mission Hospice for the care they provided her. A memorial gathering is to be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the 402 Arts Collective in Omaha, Nebraska, Seven Islands State Birding Park in Kodak, Tennessee, or Hill Country State Natural Area in Bandera, Texas.
