A fierce soul with a rocker’s heart, Monica Escalante Howell entered into eternal rest on July 30, 2025 at the tender age of 57. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 3, 1968 to parents, Juana Hernandez and Joselino Perez Escalante. From a young age, she was destined to make noise—not just through music, but through the love and laughter she spread to everyone around her.
Monica was a proud and passionate venue promoter who played a key role in helping grow and support the local new metal scene. She was a true rocker through and through—her love for metal and hard rock ran deep, and her dedication to music was matched only by her devotion to her family and friends.
She had a knack for gathering people, whether it was at a show, a bingo night, or simply around her kitchen table. Monica was known for hosting celebrations filled with warmth, humor, and incredible food. A gifted cook, she kept a family tradition alive by letting the kids choose their favorite homemade meal on their birthdays. Some of the most requested dishes were her enchiladas, mole, migas, her comforting bowls of cream of wheat or grits and her famous French toast.
Monica’s greatest joy was her family. She poured her love into every relationship—with her children, grandchildren, and husband. Her playful spirit often came through in the silly games she shared with her grandkids, especially when she would hide and scare them just to make them laugh. Her love was bold, constant, and unforgettable.
At 16, she met the love of her life, and even though life took them on separate paths for a while, fate brought them back together 16 years later. On November 2, 2024, they got married and have celebrated 20 beautiful years of their love—a bond built on deep love, loyalty, and understanding. Monica always had her husband’s happiness and preferences in mind, a testament to her generous and selfless heart.
