

Monica Joan Urich Rauch of San Antonio, TX, peacefully passed away on August 9, 2022, at the age of 89. Born October 1932, to parents John and Cecelia Urich, Monica was raised in Toronto, Ohio. After graduating from Toronto High School, she attended Mount Carmel College of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. During a college mixer she met Conrad Rauch. They married in 1954, raised seven children and remained happily married until his passing in 2017.
Outgoing, loquacious and active in her community and church, Monica loved to entertain. Long before foodie became a term, Monica was shopping at farmers markets, hosting dinner parties and honing her culinary skills by volunteering in restaurant kitchens. She passed this love of cooking to her children and grandchildren along with her sense of humor, compassion for others and willingness to try new things and places. Although Monica chose family over a nursing career, her skills went to extensive use as the neighborhood go-to mom for patching up scraped knees and bruised elbows. Above all, whether you addressed her as Mom, the Chief, Sis, Grandmom, Aunt Monica, Miss Monica, Mrs. Rauch or simply Monica, she treated you with kindness and love.
Monica is preceded in passing by her husband, Connie; and son, Mark Rauch. She is survived by daughter, Andrea Dwyer and spouse, Paul of Kirkland, WA; daughter, Christine Rauch-Mahoney and spouse, Jerry Mahoney of Seattle, WA; daughter, Julie Shroyer and spouse, Steven of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Sue Aho of Seattle, WA; son, Peter Rauch and spouse, Susan of Austin, TX; son, Thomas Rauch and spouse, Stacy of San Antonio,TX; grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas, Johanna, Yohan, Matthew, Kathryn, Monica, Loretta, Allison, Samantha, David and Sam; and nine great-grandchildren.
A rosary service will be held 5 p.m. Sunday, August 21 at Porter Loring Mortuary North in San Antonio, TX. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, August 22 at St. Mark the Evangelist Church in San Antonio with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception for friends and family will follow.
