Born in Clinton, NC on March 24, 1935, Nancy's gregarious and loving personality knew no strangers; she quickly befriended everyone she met and ensured they were included in her ever increasing circle of friends. Her clever, witty, and entertaining disposition was always evident when she told one of her infinite number of jokes, including those that were just a little spicy. She enjoyed bible study classes, country music, reading, playing bridge, travelling, old movies, the penny slots, and shopping. Her ability to remember words to songs impressed us all and she could break into song using almost any spoken word.
She was a faithful member of Coker United Methodist Church, participating in the Questors Sunday School class, serving as a Stephens Minister, and taking the Walk to Emmaus. But above all, she is best known for the love of her family. Her high school sweetheart (AKA "honeybun") swept her off her feet and for 62 years (58 of those married) shared a wonderful, exciting, and fulfilling life.
Surviving her is her husband Herman "Red" Corbitt; four daughters, Jill Corbitt (Karen), Lisa Matchell, Susan (Charlie) Wernette and Michele (Flint) Geary; four grandsons, Christopher Matchell, Kyle Matchell, Zachary Wernette and Cullen Wernette; a great grandson Thomas Matchell and a great granddaughter Avari Matchell; her sister Annette Sparks; and numerous nephews and nieces. Preceding her in death were her parents George and Marie Parker, her sister Martha George Parker, and her brother David Parker.
Her memory will be cherished and her beauty treasured as we share and pass our loving, funny, and precious recollections of her warm and kind spirit with each other and with generations to come.
Visitation will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary North located at 2102 N. Loop 1604 West on February 20th from 6-8 PM.
