January 17, 1919 -- September 11, 2018
Nathaniel P. Hanna received his eternal reward on September 11, 2018, having lived 99 ¾ years, almost reaching his goal of becoming a Centenarian! He will be greeted by his mother and father (Mattie & Elmor Hanna), his sisters and brothers (Irene, Naomi, Elmor, Paul, & Daniel) and Barbara, his loving wife of more than 75 years.
Nate leaves behind his two daughters, Barbara Joy Calvert and Kay Hanna; his three granddaughters, Adrienne Barr, Heather Stanson, and Kella Hanna-Wayne; and his two great grandchildren Olivia Barr and Nathaniel Barr.
Throughout a long military career, he served in WWII and the Korean War, earning many commendations, including a Bronze Star and a Legion of Merit. Nate was Deputy Chief of Staff, Comptroller, Fourth United States Army, Fort Sam Houston, TX, 1969. Nate served on the Army Residence Community’s (ARC) first Board of Directors in 1987. They lived at the ARC for thirty years.
Nate was a phenomenal human being, whose positive attitude provided constant inspiration to those of us fortunate enough to have had him in our lives. He will truly be missed but will live in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 12:00 pm at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, 825 E. Basse Rd, San Antonio, TX 78239. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a charity of your choice in memory of Nathaniel P. Hanna.
