

Neomal was born in Sri Lanka on August 19, 1957. He attended school at St Joseph's College in Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he excelled in swimming. He represented Sri Lanka in various age-group swim meets, winning numerous events. In 1969, Neomal and his family migrated to Singapore, where he continued to be a champion swimmer at Anglo-Chinese School. His swimming specialty was in long distance, including the 1500 meters Freestyle and 400 meters Individual Medley.
After graduating from high school, he moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1980 to obtain a BBA at the University of Texas at San Antonio and later obtained a CPA. While attending UTSA, he met the love of his life; Valerie, his wife of 29 years. They were married on December 21, 1981. He was devoted to his family and his generous spirit impacted the life of many children including his nieces and nephews. Neomal was an enthusiastic sports fan and an avid hunter, which he shared with his family.
During his career as an accountant, Neomal climbed the ladder from an Accounting Intern, to an Accountant, to a Controller at various Multinational Corporations and finally became the Chief Financial Officer at Maldonado Nursery and Landscaping, Inc.
Neomal was preceded in death by his father, Nihal Ratnayeke. He is survived by his loving wife Valerie, daughter Michelle, son James, stepson Sean, mother Thilaka, brother and sister-in-law Nilkamal and Jovita, brother and sister-in-law Nilan and Tanny, brother and sister-in-law Julian Nihal and Laura, mother-in-law Sue Hubbard; brother-in-law and wife Vern and Ricia, brother-in-law and wife Victor and Vikie, sister-in-law and husband Veda and Jon, along with many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Porter Loring Mortuary North, followed by a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.
