Nick's father Galliano "Jim" passed away in November 1995 in San Antonio, Texas. Nick's brother Randolph "Randy" passed away in January 1996 in Huntington Beach, CA. Nick's brother Phillip passed away in May 1994 in San Antonio, Texas. Nick's brother Martin "Marty" and his sister Sarah are well and both live in San Antonio, Texas with their families. 'with great sympathy I send this message. I was a friend of the family when they lived in Illinois back in the late 60's and visited them when they first moved to California. Lost track of the family after that and recently a friend from back then sent me this website. I am sorry to hear of your loss.

'My sympathy to the remaining family. In searching for classmate and friend, Phillip, I came upon this. Most certainly I must have known Nick a little as Phillip and I were best friends in 1965-1966. At that time they lived in Mendota, IL. I have tried to find him and Randy for many many years now. I hope I am not out of line posting here and asking if someone could contact me regarding Randy and Phillip's passing? I would greatly appreciate some closure as would others in our area.'

'When I was in 1st & 2nd grade, my Parents & I lived on base at Lackland. I attended a school located there on base too (although for some strange reason, I dont remember the name of the school). Somewhere near the end of my 2nd grade year my Dad told us that we our going to purchase a house. So we did so. This house was in a brand new neighborhood called Park North, located off of Perrin Beitel. And with the new house & new address I then had to go to a different school. So for my 3rd grade year I went to Clear Spring Elementary, also located off of Perrin Beitel. 
 Some time during the Summer between my 3rd & 4th grade year, Nick & his family also moved into the Park North neighborhood. And with his new address, he too had to attend Clear Spring Elementary. And in fact we were both in the same grade. But Nicks house was located further down the street than any of my other friends. So much further down the street that he & I did not become friends. We didnt even know each others names. I only knew that he was in my grade & he lived in our neighborhood. 
 For my 5th grade year, my Dad told us that we are moving to Chicago. So we made the move & I spent my 5th grade year in the school system there. And my Mother took a job there too. But my Mother & I didnt like it there in Chicago, at all. So one night my Mother & I sat my Dad down & told him that we wanted to move back to San Antonio. He agreed. So he went back down to San Antonio first. He got himself a job & bought us a house. Again, this was a house in a brand new neighborhood. In fact, our new street was as far as the development had gotten so far. 
 I remember it was the last 2 weeks of my first Summer there in our new house. I was at the neighborhood pool. I wanted to get in as much swim time as I could before I started my 6th grade year. There were many other children there too that day. I thought that I recognized one of the other swimmers there. I went up to this person & I asked him his name. He tells me his name is Nick. I asked him if he went to Clear Spring Elementary. He tells me yes. I told him that I went there too. I asked him if he was going to start the 6th grade. He said yes. I told him that I was too. I asked him if he was going to be attending Junior High at Ed White Middle school. He said yes. I told him that I was going to be starting there too. 
 You see, after I had spent my 5th grade year there in Chicago, my family & I moved back down to San Antonio, & both our families happened to buy homes in the same neighborhood. What are the odds? Anyway, we talked for a few minutes. I said I think that we should be friends. He said the same thing. We were 12 years old at that time. We had just started a new friendship. A friendship that lasted many years. A friendship that lasted a lifetime. He was a good friend. We had many laughs & many jokes. He will be missed. Rest in peace my friend. Rest in peace.'

'In preparing for our wedding I asked Nick if it would be alright if our wedding flowers could be peach roses and white daisies. Nick said that if that's what I wanted, that would be fine with him.

'We are so sorry. Nick has fought hard to live his life. He had all your love and support, Rene, and also yours, Fran and Doran. It sounded like he had a lot of supportive friends. We are amazed that he continued to work until mid-November. H was so appreciative of many things in life. I know of his deep interest and knowledge in history, and yet I also remember how he enjoyed watching Disney on Ice with the children. We continue to keep you in our prayers.'

'I worked with Nick for 14+ years at the law firm and originally Nick was in the litigation department. He was so smart and had such an aptitude for computers, that we asked to have him moved to IT. We figured we needed to keep our eye on him, since he easily could cause issues by inventing his own solutions to problems. :-) Nick really flourished working with technology and made tremendous contributions to the company. One of the nice things about working with Nick, was his great sense of humor. I remember that he and I both used to get a good laugh about scenes from the movie Office Space. Nick really dove into anything that interested him, including politics. Nick never minded giving you his mind when it came to the subject and I have to say I usually agreed with him. When you think about Nick the word "laughter" has to come to mind. Usually I was laughing with him and sometimes laughing at him, but always a lot of joy came from knowing Nick. Nick will be missed by those how really knew him, I feel fortunate to have been a part of his life.'

'Nick was an amazing person. We met in high school over 30 years ago because of band. He was not only a great friend to many but a talented musician as well. He always kept such a positive outlook on things and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a natural at making people not only smile, but laugh as well. He fought a courageous battle against diabetes and never gave up hope. He often talked about the love of his life, Rene, and what a wonderful woman she is. He told me he felt blessed to have found her. He was a special man with a big heart and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Nick faced many challenges over the last few years but he stood his ground. He faced life with determination and fortitude.

'Working in different departments, Nick and I didn't have opportunity to converse very much. But in spite of that, he was an inspiration to me. Being kept abreast of his condition through the prayer group at work, and crossing paths with him from time to time, knowing some of what he'd been going through, was crucial to my realizing that whatever I've gone through in this life compares not. I'm not sure I would have the strength, physically or mentally, to endure what he endured. For keeping my view of life in perspective, Nick, I thank you.

'I met Nick in 2004, when I began work at LGB&S. Nick was an engaging individual and readily available to discuss various topic, conservative politics being his favorite. Nick had a wealth of knowledge and will be greatly missed!'

'When I think of Nick, I remember when he, Dan, Joe, and I used to go to the shooting range. Those days were fun. Nick enjoyed the shooting, eating at Taco Cabana afterward, and making fun of Dan's political views. Although firearms were present, the debates remained good natured.

'I believe God gives us certain blessings in life and it is up to us what we make of them. 
Nick developed juvenile diabetes as a teenager and fought the disease with tenacity for over thirty years. Nine years ago, as the disease continued to ravage his body; he started dialysis three times a week for five hours each session. At each session his blood was filtered seventeen times and the treatment was exhausting, especially for a body that was weak as organs failed. After each session, Nick would drive himself to work and put in an eight hour day. He was one tough guy. My wife took Nick to his first dialysis and as he was being in processed, one of the staff asked him if he would like to start the paperwork for disability benefits. He replied indigently, "I have a job. I don't need benefits. 
Nick went to dialysis three times a week and worked until last November. As he became weaker and weaker, Rene drove him to work and he would walk slowly with his walker until he was near exhaustion and soaked with sweat when he got to his desk. 
During these years, Nick required frequent hospitalizations often lasting up to two months. His co-workers on several occasions donated their leave time so Nick could continue to receive his pay and benefits. Nick and Rene received hundreds of dollars from anonymous donors. He suspected it came from his co-workers. 
As the disease progressed, Nick had to have his left leg amputated. In his hospital room we all listened in hushed silence as the surgeon told him that he had no option; the leg had to be amputated. Without hesitation, Nick said, "Whack it off." Nick was a tough guy. 
Recently, Nick was again hospitalized to have a finger amputated. He asked for a priest for the anointing of the sick. The priest read a blessing very quickly from a piece of paper and gave a fast sign of the cross. Nick seeing humor in all phases of life nicknamed the priest "Fast Eddie." 
To use an overused phrase, Nick was one of a kind. A blessing to all who marveled at his courage, tenacity, and willingness to look at the Devil in the eye and say, "I may go, but it is going to be a fight." Submitted by Doran Hopkins, Father in Law.'

'We first met Nick when Rene brought him home for Thanksgiving dinner in 1995 and we immediately decided that he was a keeper. 
In 1996, we were at Frank's house for my birthday and Nick had made me a birthday card. When I unfolded it, he asked us for permission to propose to Rene. When we got home Doran sent him an email with the message, "Go for it." 
Nick took Rene out to dinner and a walk on the San Antonio Riverwalk, There is a small island called Marriage Island and they sat down on a bench. He patiently waited for a break in the boat traffic and then got down on his knee and asked her to be his wife. 
He was such a blessing to our family. His sense of humor was amazing. When he would tell stories about his childhood, we would laugh until we cried. he was one of a kind and we will miss him so much. Submitted by Francele Hopkins, Mother in Law'
