Nick J. Vilagi passed away peacefully in the comfort of loved ones on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, just four days shy of his 58th wedding anniversary. Nick was born in San Antonio, Texas, on February 9, 1945, the son of Frank J. and Esther (Spinelli) Vilagi, the second of four children. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Marina Vilagi, brother Frank Vilagi, and sister Mary Vilagi. Nick is survived by his loving wife Joan, son Mark and wife Jeanette, three grandchildren, Luke, Max and Olivia Vilagi, devoted sister Teresa (Nick deceased) Demer, nephew Matthew Demer, as well as many other loving family members and close friends.
He graduated from Saint Gerard High School, attended San Antonio College, and went to work for USAA in computer support. With the Viet Nam draft looming, Nick enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1966. Shortly after completing his basic training, he married the love of his life, Joan Milum, on June 7, 1966, in Saint Gerard’s Catholic Church. The newlyweds then left for his next duty station in Spokane, Washington. They subsequently returned home to San Antonio, where Nick served as a Military Training Instructor at Lackland Air Force Base. After his 4-year assignment with the Air Force, Nick returned to his job at USAA, where he served as a senior analyst in the centralized computer processing department, and retired after 37 years of dedicated service.
Nick loved the outdoors and was an avid tennis player. He enjoyed playing poker, both live and online, and spent many hours playing cards, watching sports, and trading guns. He was an excellent marksman, and enjoyed hunting for many years.
He loved feeding the deer in the park next to his home. He had such a bond with them that they would come to fence line and wait for him to feed them, and some would even take the food right out of his hand.
Nick had a great sense of humor, and was always making those around him laugh. He loved doing things for others, and was very generous to family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
