Occasionally angels walk on earth and we know that that one was here. Her name was Nina. Born December 18, 1959 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Nina Ellen Henderson died peacefully on March 19, 2006 surrounded by her family and friends. Raised in San Antonio, she graced the halls of Alamo Heights High School, but added to her world view by spending her junior year in Johannesburg, South Africa and later at the Universidad de Anahuac in Mexico City and was fluent in several languages as a result of her studies abroad.
A 1980 graduate of Southern Methodist University, she was a Pi Beta Phi Angel and an SAE Little Sister. After graduation, she followed a family tradition to become a successful international real estate broker at Strauder Nelson Real Estate Co.
She later attended law school at SMU and obtained her Juris Doctorate from St. Mary's University School of Law in 1989. Nina was a beloved shareholder and friend at Plunkett & Gibson, Inc., where she practiced commercial and business transactional law for 17 years. She was also a member of various civic and legal organizations.
The Order of the Alamo was proud to have her as the Script Writer for 'The Court of the Spirit of the Americas' during the Coronation of The Queen of the 2005 Fiesta.
She is preceded in death by her stepfather Strauder Nelson, Jr. and is survived by her mother Carolyn Nelson of San Antonio; brother Keller Henderson of New York City and San Antonio; sister Laura Lee Henderson of Llano; nephews Bradfield G. Henderson of San Antonio and Christopher C. Conrad of Uvalde; godsons Preston, Luke and Ford Durbin of San Antonio and her beloved pets Winnie and Pumpkin. Her father is Bill Henderson of Denver, Co.
Those of us who enjoyed her grace, humor, loyalty and strength will miss her unique touch. She brought together those around her, creating a large extended family, all of whom were enriched and inspired by her kindness, courage, beauty and poise. The joy she brought us will never be forgotten.
