It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Noemi Hinojosa, daughter of the late Rev. Amado Hinojosa & the late Rev. Guadalupe Hinojosa. Noemi entered eternal rest with the Father in the early hours of February 18, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, leaving a legacy of service to others that will be continued by her family, friends, and church. She was a woman whose life was a testament to selfless love and devotion, & her spirit will forever remain with those whose lives she touched. She was 81 years old.
Noemi was a living example of the “American Dream,” an immigrant who came to the United States with her parents and siblings in 1959 with very little except a desire to work hard and build a better life while ministering to their community. Noemi De Los Reyes Hinojosa was born on June 21, 1943, in Padilla, Tamaulipas, Mexico, as the second of ten children in a family deeply involved in the evangelical movement. Her father, Rev. Amado S. Hinojosa, was a pioneering figure in the Assemblies of God church, and the family moved frequently due to his ministry work across various towns in Tamaulipas. Noemi attended schools in Mexico before immigrating with her family to Lubbock, Texas, in 1959. As a teenager, she struggled to adapt to her new life in the U.S., initially working to support her family before attending Lydia Patterson Institute to learn English. She later took on significant household responsibilities when her mother, Lupita, was critically injured in a car accident.
Noemi married Rev. Juan M. Valenzuela in 1962, with whom she had three children. During their marriage, Noemi contributed significantly to their ministry while raising her children and managing a busy household. She later pursued a career in cosmetology, establishing Mimi's Beauty Salon in 1983, which she ran for 29 years. She also supported her children’s education and remained active in her church. After retiring from her business, Noemi dedicated herself to volunteering in various community services. Known for her strength, compassion, and perseverance, Noemi has been an inspiration to many, showing resilience through life's challenges and always offering kindness and encouragement to those around her.
As a member of Grace Point Northeast and a pillar in her community, Noemi embodied what it meant to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Whether ministering to the community, offering a kind word to others, or serving coffee & cookies, she was tireless in her mission to serve. Noemi gave without hesitation, always asking for nothing in return. Through her devoted spirit and unshakeable will, she succeeded in creating a life that was not only blessed but, more importantly, full of love and purpose. She became a vital and cherished part of her community, tirelessly giving back in both big and small ways. Her kindness was felt by all who knew her, and her legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to inspire generations to come.
In all things, Noemi sought only to lift others up, to be a source of strength for those who needed it. She lived as a true servant of Christ, sharing the light of His love in everything she did. Noemi’s family and friends will forever cherish the example she set — one of unyielding faith, boundless generosity, and the deep joy that comes from serving others.
Noemi leaves behind a family who will miss her dearly – her three children & their families: John & Rosanne Valenzuela and their family (Yvonne, Moses, Brian, Timothy, & Sean) and granddaughter (Rose), Miriam & Victor Valenzuela and their family (Katarina, Rebekah, & Priscilla), and Cynthia Potter & her family (Kaleb, Selah, & Koji). She is also survived by her nine siblings & their families: Ana Estrada, Amado N. Hinojosa, Magda Beltran, Joel Hinojosa, Martha Hinojosa-Nadler, Aaron Hinojosa, Dr. Michael Hinojosa, Daniel Hinojosa, & Sarah Hinojosa, who will never forget the love she brought to their lives. Noemi’s life was a living prayer. She is now resting in the arms of the Lord, and though she is gone, her love, light, and unwavering faith will continue to guide us.
A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Grace Point Church Northeast Campus at 2930 MacArthur View, San Antonio, TX, with visitation beginning at 5:00pm and services at 6:00pm.
