Noemi "Mimi" Limon passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on June 12, 2016. Born on January 18, 1938, she was one of 18 children born to Marcos & Irene Ponce. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Leticia Limon; twin sister, Alicia Suarez; and numerous other siblings. She left behind her husband of 47 years Al Limon; daughters, Lexia Limon and Ann-Marie Campbell (Ben); son Alfred A. Limon; and her only grandchild and joy of her life Adele Campbell; as well as several siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
She graduated from San Antonio Vocational and Technical High School in 1956, and received certification from Draughtons Business College. She started her career with the Federal Government in Fort Sheridan, Illinois in 1969, but soon after, she chose to dedicate her life to family and motherhood. She was a stay at home mom throughout the children's formative years and was very active with all of their school activities. She created a stable and loving home for her children, giving all a Catholic education and ensuring that they each received college degrees, which she was never able to attain herself. After raising her children, she returned to work and retired from the Department of Labor, OFCCP in 2000. Mimi, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt will be forever missed.
Aside from her only grandchild, the highlight of her life was when she saw Pope John Paul II at the Vatican where she, uncharacteristically, leapt on a chair and reached out touch him as he passed within feet of her grasp.
Those who met Mimi would often use the same words to describe her - "the cutest and sweetest woman in the world." Those of you who know her, know this to be true. She also had the softest and sweetest voice you would ever hear. The worst thing to ever come out of her mouth; and only when she was exceptionally angry, was "Hell's bells!"
Special thanks to Claudia Orona, Amparo Lopez, and Eva Samaniego, the St. Michael Missionary Care sisters who lovingly and tirelessly cared for Mimi in her final months. The love, attention, experience and 24 hour care they give to the residents is beyond anything we could have hoped for in an assisted living facility. They were truly a Godsend to Mimi when she was most in need of assistance, and continue to offer their professional and loving care for others in need.
