'I will remember Dale as a fun loving, witty person. I can remember a birthday party in San Antonio where the guest list looked like the United Nations. Dale had no boundaries when it came to his friends and sharing of his wit. We were all fortunate to have known and shared some time with Dale. Skylar and Eli, he was so very proud of both of you. Doc, Doc and Sherry, Skylar and Eli, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

'I never made it to Texas to visit Dale, but he would come to California. Oh, and talk on the phone, whoa did we talk on the phone. Dale was my dad's cousin but closer to my age, older of course! I remember one time when Dale and Uncle Bob came out to visit. We didn't have any extra beds so Uncle Bob took a couch and with Dale too tall for the other couch, we had to do some furniture maneuvering. Well needless to say Dale always fell through the cushions and we all heard about it the next morning! I'm going to miss the calls, but I have my memories. Out of pain is always a good thing. 'I was saddened to here the news of Dale's passing. My desk was the cubicle next to Dale's for several years at SSA, and I learned a lot from him. We became SSI Technical Experts together (with Diana Aranda) back in 2001, when the position was first created, and we worked on a lot of projects together. I also remember how compassionate he was and how he insisted on handling all of the HIV claims which came into our office way back (late 80's, early 90's) when some people were afraid to share the same air space with those affected, and how he liaisoned with Papa Bear (one of San Antonio's leading HIV activists), doing outreach to that community. Dale was instrumental in helping get a process in place to assure those claims were handled expertly and expedited. I listened to many interviews that Dale conducted with patience, compassion, and true caring for the individuals involved. I learned many good interviewing techniques, as well as many other tricks of the trade for processing complex SSI workloads by listening to and working with Dale. He was always very helpful and more than willing to share his knowledge with others. He was approachable, a key trait to being a great SSI Technical Expert. We both often said to each other that we were fortunate to hold the best the position there is at SSA. We held the same grade and received the same pay as supervisors, but got to continue to do the work that we loved: interacting with the public and mentoring fellow SSA employees, without having to deal with all the political issues that those in management positions do. My husband, Byron Harper, got to know him as well when he assisted him in buying and setting up one of his first home computers. Byron always said what a great guy he was and what a great sense of humor he had. I will miss his laugh and his special, just-a-little-twisted-sometimes sense of humor. I feel honored to have known him and to have called him a friend. Rest In Peace, Dale.'

'My first 2 years at SSA were tough and I went through some very rough patches. Dale was not one to follow the crowd. I'm glad that I had an opportunity to thank him and tell him on several occasions that I would never forget how he always treated me with kindness and respect.'

'Dale was like my Big Brother. Boy, we had a good time we had. As my stand in date, we went to many dances. I guess the thing that will always stand out in my mind it the time we were in and around the flat bottomed boat out in the stock tank. At the same time Dale stood up in the boat and I pushed off the side which caused Dale to fall in the boat. Well, he fell on the screw that was sticking out where the handle was and slit his arm open. Dad took him 20 miles to the nearest hospital to get stitched up. What excitement we had growing up together. Glad he took on the roll as my big brother. Love and miss you.'

'Mama Betty met Dale when they both first trained for Social Security. They became co-workers when he transferred to the San Antonio office. Over the many years, Betty considered Dale to be her best friend. She said, "I loved him to pieces, and he knew it!" They both enjoyed a cruise to Mexico, along with several friends.

Dale helped us in so many ways, such as installing ceiling fans. When Betty was hospitalized due to a slow heart rate, Dale came to offer guidance so I knew it was best to have a pacemaker installed. Dale brought Betty with him to several of the Social Security Retirees luncheons.

'I'm feeling very sad today after reading all the lovely memories in the guestbook.It's interesting to read the various ways in which Dale has touched your life.Growing up, I didn't see my cousin very often depending upon where Uncle Bob was stationed. I always felt closest to Dale probably because I was his favorite. um, I mean we were the closest in age. To describe Dale in one word it would be HYSTERICAL, ANTIMATED, ENTERTAINING, and LAUGH, LAUGH, LAUGH. Whether we were making up plays about "Josephine Fardall"on the reel-to--reel-tape recorder in Aunt Helen's basement or playing cards at the North 40 or you taking me to a gay bar in the 80's, we never had a dull moment! I will really, really miss you Nordale & in the words of Bonny, you are free of pain,free in spirit and now know you are at peace.I am a better person having known you and proud to call you my friend. You will be missed. Love you!'

'I've known the Savage family for over 50 years. I remember the building on the A-frame on the back 40 and how hard digging through all the hill country rock soil was. What a nice place it turned out to be. Doc and Roger! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Your son and brother will be missed.'

'Dale was a wonderful, loyal friend for the past 23 years. He helped me move from San Antonio to Florida in 2003 and we stayed friends since. We had a wonderful time together in Cancun in 2007. I was really happy to have him come for vacation to Rhode Island and Provincetown, Mass one summer and meet my family. In San Antonio I remember him as a great party host and a favorite party guest. We enjoyed many weekend trips to Houston to visit our friend Tim. Just this year I was happy to have him call and update me on Fiesta and the changes in San Antonio. I was sorry to hear about his health challenges the past few years, but I know he had a fulfilling life both at work and at home. I visualize him at peace. My partner and I will make a donation in his name to the Smart Ride here in Florida. It's a bike ride from Miami to Key West that benefits HIV service organizations. Peace, Dale!'
