

Normand G. Desjardins, a true craftsman of life and laughter, completed his grand adventure on January 18, 2024, at the age of 72, in Castroville, Texas. Born on August 18, 1951, Normand was a man of great character, known for his kindness, generosity, and the joy he brought to those around him.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Annette Desjardins, his daughter Jocelyn Whalen, son-in-law David Whalen, and his adored grandchildren, Devon and Mia. Normand's memory will also be cherished by his brothers, Robert (and wife Anita), Roger, and Ronald (and wife Terry), as well as his sisters, Rachel (and husband Andre) and Jolene. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert O. and Marcelle Desjardins.
Normand proudly served his country with distinction, dedicating 4 years to active duty in the United States Air Force, followed by 14 years with the Maine Air National Guard and concluding with 4 years in the Alaska Air National Guard. His commitment to service was a testament to his patriotism and strength of character.
Alongside his military career, Normand embarked on a professional journey in the commercial sign business, where his craftsmanship and creativity were on full display. He worked for NeoKraft Signs in Maine and later for SignCo in Alaska. Normand eventually transitioned to a role at Ted Steven's International Airport, serving in field maintenance, building signs and keeping bellies full with homemade ribs and a fully stocked snack bar.
Normand's warm and welcoming nature left a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. He had a vibrant personality and was known for his mischievous and adventurous spirit. He had a passion for making people laugh, telling stories, and welcoming everyone into his home with open arms. He served as a Girl Scout Leader for over 7 years and loved camping, hiking, and exploring. A culinary wizard in the kitchen, he was always on the hunt for new recipes to try out for Sunday family dinners.
A military honors ceremony will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, on March 25th at 2:45 pm, at Pavilion 5. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to support Mr. Drew and His Animals Too, a natural science and exotic animal rescue center in Lewiston, Maine.
Normand Desjardins will be remembered for his kind heart, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love for his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and generosity that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
