On October 3rd, 2024 the kingdom of heaven called Oralia R. Rodriguez home. She was welcomed by her husband Isaac Rodriguez Sr., Mother Dorotea Rodriguez, Father Macario Rodriguez Sr., Brothers Macario Jr., Elias Sr., her sister Martha, and her son in law Mario Mendoza. Though she is in eternal peace, reunited with her husband and loved ones in heaven, her enduring light will continue to guide us.
Born on March 5th, 1955, in San Antonio, Texas, Oralia was the middle child in a family of nine children. She developed a strong work ethic and valued family during her childhood. These principles guided her throughout her life.
On June 5th, 1972, she married Isaac Rodriguez Sr. after their third date. They established a life characterized by love and joy, which they extended to their children: Monica Mendoza (and late husband Mario Mendoza), Isaac Rodriguez Jr., Christopher Rodriguez (and wife Samantha Rodriguez), and Veronica Rodriguez. She was blessed to be a grandmother to eight grandchildren: Mario III., Diego, Esperanza, Dyandra, Divianna, Evanity, Olivia, and Ryan; followed by two great-grandchildren Avyanna, Azriel, and an expecting great-grandson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and godsons.
With a heart full of love for everyone she met, she was a mother and grandmother to many. This love was a testament she showed that family did not have to be defined by blood but by bonds created and the love she shared; with a remarkable gift for making everyone feel like family. She was the pillar for so many lives and although many knew her by different names (Lala, Ms. O, Manie, Momo, Grandma O, Jefa) her sentiment towards you was always one of deep affection.
Known for her vibrant personality and boundless love, Oralia had a unique ability to light up any room she entered, filling it with laughter and warmth. Her passion for cooking (never following the same recipe) and sharing meals was a reflection of her personality in wanting to care for everyone. She retired from Harlandale ISD with a 43 year-tenure. Students remember her for the smiles she gave and the care she showed. Every person who met her had a unique story to share about her. She cherished even the smallest moments and would not hesitate to gift you a memento of hers.
As we remember Oralia, we are reminded of the lessons she imparted in us: listen deeply, love loudly, and embrace each day with gratitude and positivity. Her memories will be held closely in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her, reminding us to seek joy with faith.
