In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by his children, Margaret Cynthia Monsibais of San Antonio, Diana Emma Tavares and her husband Rick Tavares of San Antonio, Oscar Monsibais, Jr. and his husband Glenn Sparks of Dallas, and Richard Monsibais of San Antonio. Oscar and Emma were blessed with three granddaughters: Veronica Briseo Lara and her husband Salvador Lara, Nicole Monsibais and her husband Brandon Prater, and Alicia Monsibais; two great grandsons, Gabriel Lara and Andrs Lara; and a sister, Eliza Elizando and husband Roberto Elizando. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Pruneda; his father, Francisco Monsibais; three sisters: Teresa Caballero, Estela Monsibais, and Irma Garza; three brothers, Luis Moncivais, Francisco (Pancho) Moncivais, and Heriberto (Beto) Moncivais; and the many friends he made through the years.
Oscar had various jobs as a young man. He was recruited by the Army Air Corps and served during World War II, and worked for the Laredo Water Works upon his return. It is there that he met Emma. Oscar and Emma moved to San Antonio in 1950 where he began his long career with the U.S. Post Office as a mail clerk and later as an administrator until his retirement. During his career at the U.S. Post Office Oscar received awards for ideas contributed, and also wrote for the Main Post Office Newsletter in San Antonio.
Oscar and Emma were parishioners of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
As a high school student, Oscar ran track, played baseball, and played clarinet in the Martin High School band. His passion was always music and through the years he followed closely Frank Sinatra's career, his favorite singer.
Oscar and Emma loved to travel and were able to visit much of the U.S. as well as other countries and continents. A favorite place to visit was Las Vegas where he was able to meet interesting performers such as Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.
Oscar was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved to be surrounded by his family. He was a great handyman around the house, and with four children found out there wasn't a car he couldn't get started. Oscar loved to read, and enjoyed writing. He loved to write loving and humorous thoughts to his wife and children.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Adante Senior Living where he lived for the last 3 years and Dr. John Galan, M.D. for his loving care throughout the years.
