

Dr. Carl Johnson was born in Kansas City, Missouri, May 26, 1943, to the parentage of the late Rev. Dr. Albert L. and Mrs. Eddie Mae Henderson Johnson. He acknowledged his call to the preaching ministry in September of 1959. On October 11, 1959, Dr. Johnson preached his initial sermon at New Light Baptist Church, Bonner Springs, Kansas, where his father served as Pastor. He was licensed at 16 years old.
Pastor Carl, as he was affectionately called during his Pastoral Ministries, was educated in the public school system of Kansas City, Kansas, and received advance degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Central Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Kansas, and Saint Paul School of Theology, Kansas City, Missouri.
He served his nation as a member of the United States Army from December 1964-November 1967 as a Chaplain’s Assistant. Following his military service, he married his sweetheart, Helen Marie Ellis and started a family. He served as Pastor of Ninth Street Baptist Church, Lawrence, Kansas; Park Avenue Baptist Church, Kansas City, Missouri; New Hope Baptist Church, Anchorage, Alaska; and Greater Corinth Baptist Church, San Antonio, Texas. Pastor Carl served these local assemblies for forty years. He became Pastor Emeritus of the Greater Corinth Baptist Church on November 12, 2017.
During his pastoral ministry, the Lord blessed him to produce much fruit. He became the spiritual father of 50 sons and daughters, who acknowledged the call to preach the Gospel. Forty-eighty completed the training process. Many of them went on to become pastors, administrators, and missionaries.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings: his sister, Dessie, and his brother Horace. He leaves to mourn his passing, Helen Marie, his loving and devoted wife; two daughters, Arla Janeen (Daniel), and Daphnee Elaine; one grandchild, Sebastian Zane; three brothers, Rev. Bernard Johnson (Susan), Rev. Albert L. Johnson, Jr. (Sheila), Eric Oneal Johnson (Teresa); four sisters, Annie J. Byrd (Rev. Kenneth), Iralles Laverne Mays (Michael), Teresa M. Hughley, and Yolanda D. Dean. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends share in grief as well.
