

Patricia Cecilia Huth Gillis Mrs. Donelson C. Gillis, Sr. died peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2006. She was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1912 to Albert V. Huth and Theresa O'Farrell Huth, and into a family of public servants and pioneers.
A native San Antonian, she was the youngest and sole survivor of their six children. Patty's Texas roots go back to when her great-grandfather, son of a wine merchant in Baden, Germany was commissioned in1842 by Henri de Castro to help established a colony in Texas, known today as Castroville.
Her father was Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector for 45 years. Patty was proud of her heritage, often reminding her family of their "pioneer spirit".
Patty graduated from Incarnate Word High School, received her law degree from San Antonio School of Law in 1935 and quietly practiced in the field of wills and estates for more than 50 years.
She was a member of the Texas State Bar Association, a charter member of the Bexar County Women's Bar Association, the Battle of Flowers Association, The Revelers Club, The Argyle, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Perennial Garden Club and First Friday Lunch Bunch. She was president of the San Antonio Zeta Tau Alpha Mother's Club and became a special initiate of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity in 1983.
She loved people and lived an exemplary life, serving as a positive role model for everyone who knew her.
Patty married Donelson C. Gillis on New Year's Day, 1937 and they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary shortly before he died in 1999.
She was also preceded in death by her sons, Donelson C. Gillis, Jr. and Charles Tod Gillis and son-in-law, Roger Wayne Bose.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Gillis Bose; daughters-in-law, Carol Gillis and Kathy Gillis; and grandchildren: Beth Bose Crowley and spouse, Dan; David Bose and spouse Sharon; Michael Bose and spouse, Allison; Laura Gillis Johnson and spouse, Bryan; Amy Gillis, Matthew Gillis and spouse, Melissa; Allison Gillis Ludvigsen and spouse Michael and Kathy's son, Michael Welch and spouse Kristen.
She took great pleasure in visits with her great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful for the loving care Patty received from Mamie Barber, Millie Mahavier, Maria Gomez, and the staff and residents at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living, where she had resided since 1997.
