Patricia was born on May 22, 1935, on the family farm just outside Stephens, Arkansas, to Tip Smith and Esther Cox Snider. In the summer of 1952, Patricia’s world expanded when she met the love of her life, J.O. Haney Jr., at a summer camp in Bentonville, Arkansas. Their connection was immediate and both were deeply smitten, and they were married in January 1953, with the written blessing of their parents.
Together, Patricia and J.O. traveled the United States as religious musicians, with Patricia’s talents shining through on the piano, organ, and accordion. In 1963, they settled in San Antonio, Texas, where they would raise their family before eventually retiring to the serene hill country of Bulverde, Texas. There, they relished the wide-open spaces, the beauty of the land, and the freedom to explore the country they loved in their RV.
Patricia was the ultimate home-maker, Southern cook, seamstress, gardener, interior decorator, always adding color and flair to her environment. She loved cooking for friends and family and entertaining in their country home on acres of Hill Country land. Whether surrounded by the beauty of her gardens or lost in deep conversation with a friend, Patricia embodied the best of both worlds, often revealing different sides of herself that left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Above all, Patricia was deeply loved by her family and friends. Her union with J.O. lasted more than 65 years until his passing in August 2018, and her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
