

Patricia Edith Marlowe, age 90, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2021, in Houston, Texas surrounded by family. She was born on March 27, 1931, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Edward Mooney and Dorothy Holes Mooney. She grew up and attended school in Minneapolis and graduated from the University of Iowa where she earned a Bachelors degree in Dietetics. Patricia joined the US Army in 1952 as a First Lieutenant and was quickly promoted to Captain. During her time in the military, she developed a talent for pistol marksmanship and began competing in shooting matches and won a number of national competitions and had the distinction of being the first woman on the Army’s pistol team. During her military service, she lived in San Juan, Puerto Rico where she traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean and central America and then was stationed in El Paso, Texas where she met her husband, Dr. Julius “Sonny” Marlowe, Jr. She ended up retiring from her military service with the rank of Captain. Patricia and Julius moved to San Antonio, Texas and were married for 17 years and had five children.
Later in life, Patricia applied her considerable intelligence to the pursuit of a career in the civil service where she rose quickly and worked in many different roles throughout her tenure, including supply chain and logistics. Patricia loved to travel and treasured any opportunity to shop for art, antiques, and collectibles when on one of her many domestic or international trips.
Patricia was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star and remained active in the Lake Harriet chapter until late in her life. She was also a lover of animals and was known to have a number of cats roaming around her house providing her love and companionship. In retirement, she put her knowledge of animals to excellent use as a docent at the Witte Museum where she educated countless museum visitors about tarantulas and reptiles. She also loved working at and supporting the San Antonio Museum of Art’s annual Bazaar Sabado. Patricia was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain and had countless dinner parties where she was known to set a perfect table and provide the most amazing food.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers - William Mooney, Jack Mooney and Grant Mooney. She is survived by her five children - Edward Marlowe, Andrew Marlowe (daughter-in-law Marty), Camille Marlowe, Melissa Joyner (son-in-law Todd), and Russell Marlowe (daughter-in-law Lee). She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren – Joelle Marlowe, Emily Marlowe, Hannah Marlowe, Cameron Metzker, Carson Metzker, Callie Metzker, Madison Wood, Hayden Wood, Harrison Joyner, Griffen Joyner, Colton Joyner and Tessa Marlowe.
