

Patrick Anthony Reyes, age 87, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021 in San Antonio. He was born on March 10, 1934 in San Antonio, to parents Elias and Candida Herrera Reyes. He was a direct descendant of Juan Leal Goraz, an original settler from the Canary Islands; Blas Herrera, the "Paul Revere" of the Alamo and Francisco Ruiz and Jose Antonio Navarro, signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Pat's love for God and his faith guided and strengthened him throughout his life. His compassion and love for others was a testament to his beliefs. Pat was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School where he played on the football team and was known as Moose. Upon graduation, he played football on the San Antonio Wolverine Football Team. Pat joined the Army and served in the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant. He was an Artillery and Communications Specialist and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal. During his service in Korea, Pat was in charge of all the tanks in Korea. After his service, he was released to the Army National Guard of Texas and as a Reserve of the Army. He married and became the father of 7 children. Pat shared his love of sports with his children. He coached numerous CYO sports for 15 years and is most remembered as "Coach Reyes" of the St. Gregory Rockets. Also, he enjoyed many years as a CYO baseball and softball umpire. He studied to become a Union Electrician and enjoyed his work as a Journeyman Electrician. Recently, Pat received his 50 year pin from IBEW Local 60. In later years, he had a handyman service, owned and operated Taco Village Mexican Restaurant and the historic Leakey Drug Store in Leakey, Texas. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed attending family celebrations and sports events. Pat especially enjoyed spending time at his home on the Frio River in Leakey, Texas. Every 4th of July, the family gathered in Leakey for a day of fun that included tubing on the river and fishing. Pat never tired of cruising and enjoyed new adventures. A favorite hobby was making balsa wood airplanes. He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Patricia Fresquez. Pat is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carolyn; sons, Andrew and wife, Carol; Kenneth; Christopher and wife, Sharon; Robert; Anthony and partner, Tony Villarreal; Phillip and wife, Lisa; daughter, Monica; grandchildren, Taylor, Austin, Hannah, Colin, Kristen, Alyssa, Marcella, Dominic, Gabriel, Laura, Anna; great grandchildren, Katie, Tiffany, Dylan, Vincent, Isla, Parker; sister, Rita Castanon; first wife, Loretta; brother-in-law, Edison Engle as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

A private interment with Military Honors will take place in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Pat's six sons. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Animal Defense League, the Building Fund at St. Helena Catholic Church and to The Fund for Central Catholic High School.
