Col Shinn was one of my favorite instructors in midwifery school in 1978-79.  I am so sorry to learn of her death. She was a grand officer and wonderful lady.

We lived close to Pat for over 30 years and had nothing but positive experiences with her. She was caring, kind, and the ideal neighbor. Larry enjoyed working on various home improvement projects for her over the years, and Sandy enjoyed cat sitting for her. We will greatly miss Pat and send our condolences to her other friends and family.

To Patsy's family, my heart is sad with the news of Patsy's death. I served in the Air Force with her at Andrews Air Force Base, MD. She was my midwife for both our boys. She will be greatly missed.

Patsy had a "Golden Girls" party.  This included all the Shinn sisters, in-laws and Arlene's  sister Aunt Fay.   Velna Flynn and Sarah McDonald also were included in all the fun.  Patsy got a Limo for these ladies and the 10 of them had to ride together.  We all laughed so hard as they piled out to the house, and getting to restaurant.  In addition to lunch, Sarah. Velna, Patsy and I gave mani pedi 's to all these ladies.  I can't explain how these women laughed to tears, but you all knew them.  I still have ringing in my ears from their laughter.  
I entered this memory as it clearly shows how much Patsy gave love and brought happiness to all she loved.
I can never be more thankful for having been a part of this wonderful memory and Patsy’s precious smile with these ladies laughter.   I know she is in Heaven now laughing with them all.

I knew Colonel Shinn at Wilford Hall Medical Center in the early 1980’s.  She was very professional but also a fun person to work for.  I was new to maternal child nursing and spent time with her as she 
taught me what I needed to know.  When I first got to the department, a big party to celebrate her promotion to Colonel as well as other Nurse Corps officer promotions was being planned.  She made sure that I was included even though the invitations had been sent out long ago.  I will always remember how kind she was and how generous she was in sharing her talents and her time with junior members of the team.  Rest In Peace, dear lady.


I was privileged to work with Colonel Patsy Shinn when assigned to Wilford Hall. She was the most caring, positive and helpful nurse to all: patients, family members and staff.  Her kind words, helpfulness and encouragement were certainly hallmarks of her career as an Air Force Nurse Corps Officer and of her whole person. 

I met Patsy in the early 1980's when we were both assigned to Wilford Hall in the Department of Maternal Child Health.  She was a mentor to me.  I knew nothing about taking care of momma's and babies but she took me under her wing and shared everything she knew with me.  When a question couldn't be answered by me I would race down the hall to her office and ask for her help.  She never failed me.  We lived near each other back than and I got sick one day and had to go to the hospital.  I called her and she showed up at my door.  She knew immediately I was really sick.  She loaded me into her car and raced me to the ER.  She stayed with me because I had no family in town.  I am eternally grateful for her friendship.  She will be missed.

Patsy was my friend.  We shared so many things.  We both loved nursing, we both loved being certified nurse midwives, we were both stubborn beyond belief (we called that sticking to our guns) , we both loved being in the Air Force Nurse Corps.  We both loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Patsy was my friend.  Each of those things we loved brought so much richness to our lives.  So many challenges to be faced, so many victories,  so many failures, so many relationships.
Patsy was my friend and I miss her terribly.

On behalf of the Society of Air Force Nurses, please know we are mourning with you the death of our friend and colleague, retired Colonel Patsy "Pat" Shinn. She was a remarkable woman who made a difference in the lives of so many others in her own journey through life. She was both a Charter and Life-time member of the Society, and a donation in her honor and memory will be made. Pat will certainly be missed by many, and she will not be forgotten by the community of Air Force nurses.

I first met Patsy in our neighborhood at a Cellular On Patrol  (COP) meeting.  Patsy and her friend and COP partner, Nina, would regularly patrol our area and keep us safe.  I do know that Patsy was a cat lover.  I once wanted a cat and I went to her house to meet a cat she had that I was to rehome.  I remember the cat would not "cotton-up" to me, so Patsy kept her cat that day. 
Patsy introduced me to many of her friends and family that became my friends and extended family.  People like Bill and Velna, Frances, Mary, and Allison just to name a few. 
Patsy, thank you for your service and may you RIP.
