Paul David Epner passed away on Friday, November 23, 2007. He was born in Yonkers, NY on December 21, 1963. At age three he moved to San Antonio where he attended school, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School. He earned a degree in education with an emphasis in math from the University of Texas at San Antonio and taught middle school math for eight years. Following this, Paul devoted his creative energy to his work as a children's book author. As a popular visiting author, he traveled throughout Texas entertaining thousands of elementary school students with his Herbert Hilligan series of book presentations. His latest book, of which he was especially proud was titled "There's a Dachshund in My Bed". His love for young people brought him back to the classroom where he was currently teaching middle school math at Rawlinson Middle School.
Paul was a loving husband to Susan Portnoy Epner and a wonderful father to his daughter Allison Josie Epner. He is also survived by his parents Marcia and Martin Epner of San Antonio; his sister Susan Epner of Dallas, Texas; brother Maury Epner and his wife Debbie of Potomac, Maryland and his brother Daniel Epner and his wife Linda of Houston, Texas. Also mourning his loss are his in-laws Nancy and Barry Portnoy of San Antonio; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Stephen and Cleo Portnoy of Austin, Texas and David and Stephanie Portnoy of Dallas, Texas. In addition he will be missed by his ten nieces and nephews and many other dear family members and friends. We will miss him dearly and his memory will always be treasured.
