Paul Joseph Franklin, Ph.D.

Paul was born in Cleveland, Ohio, attended elementary and secondary schools in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania and graduated from John Marshall High School in San Antonio, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from UTSA in 1985 and went on to earn his Ph.D. from Columbia University in New York City. After two years of post doctoral work at Columbia, Paul realized his career goal and in 1993 began teaching Organic Chemistry at Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA. As a professor at Georgia State, Paul was very active in student affairs and the advancement of the Chemistry program there. Paul was known by his peers for his excellence as a teacher and by his family for his love for and sensitivity to each of them. Paul loved to cook and his wonderful cuisine made him a hit with family and friends.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Mariel Inez Franklin of Atlanta, GA.; his parents, Thomas and Agnes Franklin of San Antonio, TX.; grandmother, Helen Borosh of San Antonio; brothers, Thomas Franklin and wife, Amber of Canyon Lake, TX., Daniel Franklin of Houston, TX., Mark Franklin and wife, Cheri of San Antonio, John Franklin and wife, Cynthia of San Antonio, Joseph Franklin and wife, Angela of San Antonio; and "adopted brother"cousin Ralph Boehnlein and wife, Patricia of San Antonio. Paul is also survived by father and mother-in-law Mario and Anita Valencia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marisa Valencia, Andrew and Ester Spaltenstein, James and Tara Valencia, Robert and Kimberly Jackson-Valencia; nephews and nieces, Jeffrey, Matthew, Carrie Ann, Addison, Skyler, Christopher, Elizabeth, Phillip, Rebecca, John, Garrett, Hunter, Andrew, Michael and Sarah Franklin, Sarah and Julian Spaltenstein, and Antonio Cruz Valencia.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 25, 2008, from 6:30 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
