Paul Watts Markette

Paul Watts Markette passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, in San Antonio, due to complications with Parkinson’s Disease. He was a man of faith and a lifetime Baptist. He was born on November 15, 1956, in Augusta, Georgia to Emily Thompson Markette and Stephen (Steve) Hood Markette. Paul grew up in North Augusta, South Carolina where he developed his talent and love for golf which became the driving force in all he did. The family moved to Victoria, Texas when Paul was in high school and golf continued to be the catalyst in friendships, schooling and throughout his career. Later, during his adult years, he moved to Houston to continue working in the oil and gas industry. His two children, Stephen and Madeline, were born in Houston and remain his greatest source of pride. Paul retired from a thirty-year career in 2019. He then moved to San Antonio to be close to his siblings while fighting his illness. Paul never met anyone he didn’t like. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with friends whether on the golf course or on a ride across country on his motorcycle. There was no difference between customer and friend to Paul, and he had a way of making everyone feel as if they were his best friend.

Paul is predeceased by his father, Steve, and is survived by his children, Stephen Hood Markette and Madeline Elizabeth Markette. He is also survived by his mother, Emily, and siblings, Julie Markette Allen (Andy), Kelley Markette Nittoli (Jim), Bryant Markette (Anne Marie) and Matt Markette (Catherine), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Please join the family for a graveside service on Saturday, March 1, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m., at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Victoria at 2201 North Main Street, followed by a reception at the Victoria Country Club, 14 Spring Creek Road. Honorary pallbearers are Christ Glankler, Mike Sorrentino, Bill Daughterty, Steve Benoit and Paul Gluth.
