Col. Paul A. Parker, Jr. USAF (Ret.) passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017 in San Antonio. He was born in Rock Island, IL to parents, Paul A. and Ruth Simmons Parker. He met his lovely wife, Sally, while they were both attending the University of Iowa.
After graduation, Paul joined the Air Force and spent his career serving his country. He first served in Japan, Philippines, and Vietnam and then later traveled to many overseas countries including India, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Singapore, with his family. Paul earned his MBA degree and worked for the Nations Bank (now Bank of America) at the Fort Sam Houston branch.
Paul had a passion for helping others and was very active in the community. He was a board member for Boysville, a member of the Kiwanis Club, President of the Emergency Services District 11 in Converse; where he obtained a grant to buy their first firetruck and station. Paul was devoted to his church, St. Marks Episcopal Church, where he served many roles and also met his second wife, Jean. Golf was a wonderful stress reliever for Paul at the end of a busy week, but it was being around friends and family that gave him the most joy. He loved any kind of celebration that included a good meal with friends and family. He was known for his quick wit and creativity. Paul was a mentor to many, a friend to all and he will be missed by everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Elizabeth in 2008.
Paul is survived by his wife, Jean Rogers Parker; daughters, Susan Satterfield and husband Steve, Amy Parker and husband, Ray Hoveida; 2 grandchildren, Michael Alexander Satterfield and Emily Nicole Satterfield; a brother, David Coats Parker and wife Barbara; and other extended family members and many friends.
