Polly Shaw, 81, passed away on Sunday, June 30th, 2013, in New Braunfels, Texas, peacefully making her spiritual journey home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James; her brothers, Chris ("Rayburn") and James; her sisters, Betty and Jean, and her mother and father. Polly was born near Longview, Texas on January 18th, 1932 to Ellis Thorpe and Alma Singletary Thorpe. She married the love of her life, James Benjamin Shaw Jr., in 1950. They moved around while James was serving in the Navy, but eventually settled in San Antonio, Texas and started a family. She devoted her life to taking care of her husband, children, and household, always putting her family's needs before her own. She was a beautiful woman, selfless and loving, feisty and strong, with an endearing, youthful wit that brought joy to others, even in her final months. Polly is survived by her sister, Dorothy; brother Dan and his wife, Kay; her children, daughter Pam Neubauer and husband, Ed; son James (Jim) Benjamin Shaw III and wife, Jessica, and her six grandchildren, Shawston Edward and wife, Kate, Cody Albert, and Lindsey Paige Neubauer, and Micaela Katherine, Kelsie Erin and Peyton James Shaw. Polly doted on her kids and grandkids, and took every opportunity to get the family together for a meal. She felt blessed to be a wife, mom, and grandma, and never passed up a chance to tell us she loved us. She enjoyed many years of fishing at the coast with her husband and loved spending time with family, sitting out on the back porch talking for hours and playing with the grandkids. She will be dearly missed by friends and family, and forever in our hearts. The family would like to thank friends, neighbors, and relatives for all of their love, prayers, and support. Interment will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on July 26th at 10:45 a.m.
In Polly's honor, we would like to encourage support of the nonprofit group, alz.org in their work to find a cure for Alzheimer's. They can be found online at: www.alz.org.
