

Pedro Ricardo Suarez was born on October 24, 1965 at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. He passed away on April 4, 2013 in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, People’s Republic of China. He is survived by his mother and father, Wynona Norwood and Nolan Ricardo Suarez of San Antonio, Texas and his younger brother, Paul Ricardo Suarez of Los Angeles, California. Pedro was outgoing, personable, and bright.
In addition to speaking Spanish and French, he was learning to speak and write Mandarin while living in China. Part of a military family, he attended elementary schools in Frankfurt, Germany before the family settled in San Antonio where Pedro finished elementary school at Windcrest Elementary, he later attended Central Catholic High School and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School (with honors) in 1984. Pedro was involved in numerous extracurricular activities at Roosevelt, including serving as Student Council President and the varsity tennis team. Pedro’s most remarkable high school accomplishment is being remembered by many of his peers for his positive attitude and contagious smile.
The diversity of Pedro’s life experiences and education continued through undergraduate and graduate school. Pedro’s interest in World War I and World War II aircraft inspired him as an adolescent to build numerous, meticulously crafted model aircrafts that hung in his bedroom during his teenage years. This interest was part of what led him to attend the United States Air Force Academy from 1984 to 1986. Pedro later earned both a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Texas San Antonio (1988) and an M.A. in Public Administration from Texas State University (1993). At TSU, Pedro was a Pi Alpha Alpha, the National Honor Society for public affairs and administration. He was listed in WHO’S WHO WORLDWIDE in 1995. Pedro then served as a member of the Adjunct Faculty at San Antonio College (from 1997 to 2001, as a Professor/Lecturer at the China Incarnate Word Education Centre (from 2001 to 2004) and as a freelance English Coach in Guangzhou and Beijing (January 2004 to February 2005).
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3303 Urban Crest, San Antonio, Texas 78209 on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 11am.
