Peggy Wolff Lewis, 84, of San Antonio, Texas passed away peacefully at her home on October 18, 2017 surrounded by family who loved her. She was born on October 27, 1932 to Marie Tillett and Charles Wolff.
Peggy attended Alamo Heights schools and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1954. She met the love of her life, Jack Lewis, Jr., at age 14. They have been in love for 70 years and married for 63 wonderful years.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew Jackson "Jack" Lewis, Jr., her children, Jack Lewis III and his wife Liza, Steve C. Lewis and his wife Susan, and Laurie L. Saunders and her husband John; nine grandchildren: John T. Saunders III, Kenneth S. Adams IV, Christina Marie Saunders, Fannie Lewis Thomas, Barclay C. Adams, Virginia Grace Saunders, Sallie Lewis Longoria, A.J. Lewis IV, Richard Spencer Lewis II and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Sue Baker and her husband Walter.
Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, known as "Honey" to her grandchildren. She recently received the Motherhood Achievement Award from the San Antonio Can High School. She had a kind and generous heart and a passion for helping people, notably when she served as President of the Charity Ball Association and of the Junior League of San Antonio, and as a long-time trustee of the University of Incarnate Word, where she received an honorary doctorate degree.
Peggy and Jack were world travelers and instilled their love of travel and adventure in their children and grandchildren by starting a tradition of annual family trips that took them all over the world. These are some of their most treasured memories and one of their greatest legacies. Peggy was a gifted writer and wrote lovely travel diaries on all her trips. She fulfilled a life-long dream of publishing her book, Crossing Stars, at age 80.
Family and friends were Peggy's passion and delight. She loved to host and entertain and frequently had parties at her home. A night at Peggy and Jack's house was always a memorable occasion, full of Peggy's warmth and gracious hospitality.
It is often said by friends and family that "People are nicer for having known her." Peggy was an extraordinary woman and will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank Andres Cisneros and Paola Rios, for their unwavering care for Peggy and all the Lewis family for many years. They would also like to thank the brilliant and capable Dr. Fernando Lopez for his compassionate care.
