

Peggy Spivey Hense passed away on July 5, after a 15 month battle with bile duct cancer. She was 78. Peggy was born in St. Charles Virginia on September 15, 1934. After earning her bachelor’s degree at Radford College, she began her teaching career in Alexandria, Virginia where she married first husband Col. Paul Spivey. After moving to San Antonio in 1966, Peggy earned her Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling. She began teaching English for NEISD at Ed White Middle School the year it opened and over 25 years later, retired as a counselor. In 1991, she married Frank Hense and the two began to fulfill their dream of travelling the world. Peggy was proud to claim that she had set foot on all 7 continents. Together they went on 12 cruises to exciting places ranging from the arctic to Antarctica. Peggy’s faith in Jesus was her driving force and she was diligent about raising her only child in the church. She was a long time member of Trinity Baptist and, more recently, was among the charter members of the Fellowship of San Antonio where she could be found Sunday mornings serving as a greeter. She found supreme joy in spending time with her grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Peggy is survived by her husband Frank Hense; daughter Suzanne Stanley, (Bryan), grandchildren Allison, Sarah, Amanda, and Connor; sister Linda Molesworth, (Jack), nephew David Molesworth, niece Laura Marshall; and her blended family including son Robert Spivey, (Lynne), grandchildren Jennifer, Mark, and Jesse; son Frank Hense III, (Karen), grandchildren Ellen and Kristen; son Ian Hense, (Nica), grandson Brian.
Visitation will be 5-7pm, Thursday, July 11 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 9:30am, Friday, July 12, at Sunset Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:45am.
