Pete Medina, age 95, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023, in Lakeway, Texas. Pete was born in San Antonio, Texas, on March 15, 1928. Pete was a father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many. He was honest, kind, and contributed to making this world better for so many, especially his children. As a young man, he served in the Navy and after he was honorably discharged from the Navy, settled in San Antonio, and raised 5 children with his wife, Beatrice. His work ethic was reflected in that while holding a full-time job with the United States Postal Service and supporting his family, earned a degree in mathematics at Trinity University in San Antonio. He and his family eventually moved to the Houston area. There, he was employed by NASA and his fingerprint remains on the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Shuttle missions. He calculated fuel consumption, flight speed and so much more - way before today’s technological advances. His commitment and effort on the Apollo missions were recognized as he was interviewed years later in a documentary that described the United States “race to the moon.” Following his retirement with NASA he and his wife settled in Austin. There, Pete was employed by the Texas Rehabilitation Commission where he continued to touch the lives of many, forging lasting relationships. With these accomplishments, Pete remained a humble man and expressed gratitude for these privileges. He was always encouraging and mentored others to further their education and to excel. Not only was Pete a brilliant man, but he was also hardworking, kind, and loving. He had a sense of humor. These traits, among so many others, are the reasons he was loved and cherished by so many friends and family including children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, uncles, and cousins.
