Born October 26th, 1940, in Pawtucket, RI, to Roger Tattersall and Doris Darling Tattersall, he was the fourth of seven brothers. He spent most of his childhood in East Hampton, CT, and his summers with his paternal grandfather at Prudence Island, RI, who taught him many life lessons. He graduated from East Hampton High School in 1958, having lettered in Basketball, Baseball, and Theatre. He was in the school band and a proud saxophone player.
Instead of pursuing a career in Life Insurance in East Hampton at the behest of his high school principal, he took his chances and joined the United States Air Force in 1958. He completed his basic training at Lackland AFB, Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, TX, and Blytheville, Blytheville, AK. He was stationed in Torrejon, Air Force Base1960 as a payroll Master. He met and married a stylish Spanish girl, Ana Maria Asensio Martinez, in Madrid on April 6th, 1963. “Teresa” Maria Tattersall was born in Torrejon, AFB, Madrid, Spain. He was transferred to Beale AFB, Yuma, CA, where Ana and Sofia were born.
Then in 1970, his wife, Ana, and children, Teresa, Ana, and Sofia, were stationed at Westover AFB in Springfield, MA, while he served an 18-month tour of duty in Osan AFB, Seoul, Korea, as a pay drop specialist for US service members in Vietnam. Despite the distance and stress, he wrote to our precious mother daily. Once his tour was completed, he received orders to Torrejon AFB, Madrid, Spain, in July 1971, where he lived, thrived, and celebrated Spanish life until June 1976. He was then stationed at Offutt AFB, Bellevue, NE, until he retired from the Air Force as Senior Master Sergeant in October 1978. He then became a GS at Offutt Audit Agency, transferring to Kelly AF, San Antonio, Texas, where he retired as a GS 13 after 21 years of service.
During his retirement, he enjoyed golfing and frequenting Home Depot to build his Gazebo, storage shed, deck, and other woodworking projects. He was a devoted grandfather to his beautiful grandchildren--Belen and Declan, which changed his life. He was renowned for his New England stoicism and strength of will that kept him going despite his ailments and challenges. He was a proud Mayflower descendant and a son of the American Revolution on his maternal side. He proudly served his country, loved his American flag, and never said goodbye but: “Take it easy.”
