Phils career started out in Houston but over his lifetime took him to international destinations. Phil was most proud of his final employment position as a Diversity, Equality and Inclusion advisor at USAA, as it allowed him to bring his personal passion into his career. His proudest accomplishments included writing numerous books and being a strong advocate for childrens, womens and LGBT rights. He served on numerous boards supporting this passion to include the LGBT San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and Child Advocates San Antonio. Phil also volunteered for a month at the Kibera Orphanage in Kenya.
Phil called himself the Global Road Warrior. In December 2014 he reached his lifelong dream of flying 1 million miles on a single airline; he was well over that mark with all of his travels. Some of his fondest memories included climbing to the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge, watching in person the running of the bulls in Spain, several pilgrimages with FGIS spirit, and numerous cruises with his mother and husband.
He was preceded in death by his mother Sharon Wells Bohlender. Philip is survived by husband, Michael Flores; his father Ed Bohlender; his sisters Sharon (Lisa) Bohlender-DeLorenzo, Karon (Deb) Bohlender, Kristine (Britton) Waldron, Kate Bohlender; his brother Geoff (Jennifer) Bohlender. Phil loved being Uncle Fiji to nephews Zachary (Erin) Bohlender, Braedan Bohlender and niece Gracie Bohlender; Phil is also survived by nephews Joshua Duke, Justin Duke, Liam Coburn and niece Ellie Coburn.
If you wish to honor Phil, in lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the two dog rescue groups Phil strongly supported. Snipsa.org and TGPR.org.
