

Phyllis Collins Janes, age 91, died on January 27, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. She had been a long time resident of Uvalde before moving to San Antonio two years ago. Phyllis was born February 10, 1926 in Mexico, Missouri to Reva Parkin Collins (Reva Burns) and Phillip Collins. She graduated from Uvalde High School as valedictorian in 1944. She graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in Baltimore, Maryland in 1947 and worked as a public health nurse in Uvalde until her marriage in 1948 to Brandon Janes, Jr. Brandon and Phyllis had five children and lived in Uvalde as well as Corpus Christi, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brandon as well as son, David and daughter, Janet. She was a loving wife and mother and is survived by her children, Brandon Janes, Virginia Millar and Peter Janes and by seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Uvalde and her church life and fellowship were a very important part of her life. She was also active in the Uvalde Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She and her husband Brandon enjoyed joining other family members in traveling to Colorado for summer vacations. Phyllis was a voracious reader, had a remarkable memory of historical facts and particularly enjoyed reading biographies and US history. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service to others and will be missed by all who knew her.
