Phyllis Koch Kuenstler passed away after 88 years of a full life on Thursday, January 10, 2013 with her family by her side. Phyllis was born on June 19, 1924, in Peoria, Illinois, and moved to San Antonio with her husband, Stanley Kuenstler, in 1949, where they raised their son, David Kuenstler, and daughter, Dana Howard.
Phyllis is survived not only by her children and husband, but also by her son-in-law, Robert Howard IV; granddaughter, Molly Howard; grandson, Robert Howard V; brother, Kenneth Koch; sister-in-law, Georgia Koch; brother-in-law, Frank Kuenstler; sister-in-law, Patricia Kuenstler.
Phyllis was known for her love of flowers, her chocolate chip cookies, and her famous carrot cake. Friends used to say, if she got to Heaven before them, she'd meet them at the Gates with a plate of warm cookies to welcome them. She was known to some as the "Casserole Queen" for the delicious dishes she brought to parties. She loved flowers of all kind and passed on her love for them to her daughter and granddaughter. Phyl put those around her at ease and made those she listened to feel important. She warmed hearts with her smile and laugh, filled hungry stomachs with her famous recipes and always had beautiful pots of flowers blooming on the back porch.
Phyl will be missed, but she passes on to the next life in peace.
