Rachel Negrete

Rachel Negrete was welcomed by the Lord in the early morning of Monday, November 7, 2022 in San Antonio, TX. She was born on December 14, 1940 in Lawrence, Kansas to the late Pedro and Santos Hernandez.

Rachel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eulogio (Lloyd) Negrete, son Eulogio Negrete Jr., granddaughter Nancy Reimer, siblings Angelina, Frederico, Maria, Jose, and David, the father of her children Raul R. Zarazua, and her parents.

She is survived by her children, Julie Negrete, Raul V. Zarazua (Carol), Yvonne Hernandez (Tony), Lisa Hafen (Kevin), and Fredrick Zarazua (Michele); her sisters, Pauline Rodriguez (Hilton), Virginia Sullivan (Daniel), Frances Hernandez, Lucia Negrete (Pedro), Janey Torres (Theodore), Elizabeth Hernandez, and brothers Alvino Hernandez (Bing), Pedro Hernandez Jr. (Valerie), and Miguel Hernandez (Kathy). She is also survived and loved by 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Rachel’s family also included the Cordi Marian Sisters and many special close friends.

Rachel retired from Southwestern Bell and was an active member of Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church and the Topeka Rose Society in Topeka, Kansas before relocating to San Antonio. She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and Kansas Jayhawks super fan. In San Antonio, she was a congregant at Cordi Marian Chapel, where she loved visiting with the Sisters. She was a gifted gardener, crafter, cook, and baker.

A Rosary will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at 7pm at Cordi Marian St. Joseph Chapel, with private visitation for family at 5pm and public visitation from 6-7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday at 10am at the Cordi Marian St. Joseph Chapel with burial at the Cordi Marian Resurrection Cemetery. The family will gather for a reception after services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cordi Marian Sisters.
