Dear Papa, Thank you for always believing in me and driving me to be the best that I can be. You are still a major influence on the way I live my life and I think about you all the time. Every morning I wake up and look at your hat, it is starting to lose your smell. I wonder what you would do when I am faced with an important task or problem. I'm not sure if this was what I was supposed to write in this book , but I know you will read this and these are some things that I needed to tell you. I want you to know something else that kills me, as I type on this damn machine and try not to shock myself from the tears falling on the keyboard. Papa, I'm sorry i didn't make it to say goodbye. i never got to say goodbye. I'm sorry papa. I gotta go now but I'll see you soon. Love your grandson.

Ralph " Bull " Rich was wellknown 
by many of the old timers.His 
Security Service stint began at 
Headquarters , in AF Spec Comm Center, where he retired as a 
civilian. He was a dynamic man and 
taught many people survival skills 
in the admin portion of the business.He was also a football coach for SCP3 in the early to mid 60's, and the founder of Kings 
Lounge. There's not much doubt in my mind that in the early to mid 60's he was "Mr SCP". A man 
who aptly filled the description 
"Tough, but oh, so gentle.

learn of Ralph's passing. We will

When I think of Uncle Ralph,I see 
a man who was always smiling, and 
always laughing. I can't remember a 
time when Uncle Ralph didn't have a smile on his face. 
My favorite memory of Uncle Ralph is from my first trip to his beach house when I was 12 years old .I remember waking up very early in the morning to go out on 
the boat to catch shrimp. It was such an exciting and unique experience for me and Uncle Ralph was so patient and kind with both me and Alicia . On that summer trip I learned to catch crab, shrimp, and fish. I remember fishing on the beach when my line suddenly got very tight and I knew I had something. I screamed to Uncle Ralph and I've never seen him run so fast. I was 
laughing so hard at him that I was nearly dragged into the ocean. I will always remember the kindness ,love and happiness that Auntie Jean and Uncle Ralph spread to everyone in our family. I was so sorry that he could not be in Savannah for my wedding because he and Auntie Jean mean so much to me and the rest of the Keller family . However, 
I am thankful that I could see him one last time at Alicia's wedding...I can continue to remember him as he was that weekend in May...smiling and laughing.

To all of my Family, We go through tough times every day. We get through them and are happy that they happened. We should be happy this happened to papa he was suffering. One day or another it would come up. This is another time like 9-11 that the community comes together. In this case family and friends come together. We should all do every thing we can to remember him because it will always be useful. Like my brother Jeff said his dream. My dream was that he would be able to achieve most of his families, friends, and communities wishes and or dreams. Everyone that reads this I hope that you will end up writing something. It is very important to me and my family. If it is long or short as long as it is something that his grandchildren can show their children when they are older and show how great there great grandfather was. With all my love,

My favorite memories of papa are the ones in which he encouraged me with my football training. I remember at Easter how he asked me how much I was running and lifting. I will never forget the encouragement he gave me. I will always follow his advice.

To me he was Uncle Ralph, to his sons Pop, to his grandchildren Papa, to everyone Bull. I was so very lucky to, especially in my formative years, have the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Uncle Ralph, Aunt Jean and David, Chris and Tony. Those times are a large portion of my most cherished moments as a youth. As I had no brothers or sisters, I felt like the boys were my brothers and Uncle Ralph and Aunt Jean as a second set of parents. I knew I was lucky then, but that appreciation grew even more so as time went on! Uncle Ralph touched so very many lives in such a positive way. To hear people talk of him at the memorial service was a reaffirmation of all my great memories of such a great man. I can only hope to touch a small fraction of the number of lives that he touched. Uncle Ralph, you are missed by such a huge number of people. That in itself is the greatest tribute of all.

Papa was one of the dearest men I've known, so caring and loving to his family of which I was a part for some time. To this day I feel a part of the family and will always remember the many good times I shared with him, especially trips to the cabin, fire-works season, Pennsylvania, "pigs-in-a-blanket", "what are we gonna do about Brian" conversations, and many more. He was a guiding figure in my life and I will truely miss him. 
PS: Don't worry Papa, Brian is doing just fine!

I have been touched by all the wonderful stories and memories of "My" Uncle Ralph. He and Auntie Jean have been such wonderful support to me throughout my life. There were so many special times, and some of the happiest memories of my childhood are weekends spent driving from Washington to Uniontown with "my" Uncle Ralph, during which I learned all the state capitals and songs in 4 or 5 foreign languages. While in Uniontown surrounded by his loving family and friends, I spent so many carefree hours and loved the give and take between Uncle Ralph and his brother Uncle Mike. My favorite time was when they would argue about which of them was my favorite American uncle. There was no doubt in my mind, and I think Uncle Ralph always knew who was my favorite. 
Everyone is asked at some point in their lives about the most influential people they have known. Uncle Ralph is at the top of my list of those people closest to me who earned my love and respect. I was always impressed by his intelligence so equally matched by his business sense. He was a shrewd businessman and at the same time he was a humanitarian with a love of his fellow man. It was always so cool to hear about Uncle Ralph's latest venture. 
Uncle Ralph knew when I was 8, and he knows now, that he is without a doubt not only "my favorite American Uncle', but also one of my favorite people ever!

 I miss you! I wish i could have been there for you when you were sick all the time. The worst thing is that you never saw me play a varsity football game or a varsity baseball game. That would have been great for you to see me play. But i will always remember you and will also be your designated driver when ever. I will take care of nana for you and i will always remeber you. My dream was for you to watch my first pro baseball game and me hit a homer and give you the ball.

He would take me, my brother, and my sister to Shoney's on Sunday morning and we would get the buffet & i would always get chocolate milk and then sooner or later i would always end up spilling it on him and he would say "your just like your Uncle Tony". Then on Saturdays he would take us to Shipley's Do-Nuts and we would get 1/2 a dozen glazed and the other half chocolate filled, then my chocolate milk, and do-nut holes. He would always make us laugh so hard with some of the stuff that he would say. He was on of the best grandfathers that anyone could ever have. He was the only one that i had for about 6 years. Then right before we left San Antonio or he left my house he would always give us some money. He was Papa. That was the best person in the world to me.

He would take me to get McDonald's french fries, let me steal them, then tell me "Don't you steal my french fries!" 
He took me fishing. 
He would let me borrow his rod even though he knew it would probably be broken when it came back.

He taught me to drive a stick on the hills of the farm in Pennsylvania. I could write for hours and still not express my truest and deepest feelings for my PAPA. He was a good man. He had so much love for his family and friends. I will miss him dearly. Not a day goes by without thinking of him and wondering if he is proud of me.  "I became involved here because of Ralph & his politics because that's where I started - "politicing" - walking the streets, standing outside of a poll all day in the heat & cold, sun & shade or calling people on the phone to tell them about candidates or to go vote. I especially called Ralph's "Pearl Harbor List" on election day. And I loved every minute of it. Because of that 
involvement we chose to live in South San when we retired here. 
 I shall always remember Ralph running in & out of our house to tell me what came next & what calling to do, etc. We had a very special friendship & I knew we'd always be friends & I could count on him.

Before now, I did not know that Uncle Ralph's nickname was Bull. But I should have known because the two things that I remember most about him was his toughness and his insistence that nobody, including himself, take themself too seriously. Since I was seven years old, his nickname for me was "Gloria" for Gloria Steinam. Whether he meant it as a compliment or not is another question but one way or another, Uncle Ralph gave me an example of someone strong along with his entire Rich family to emulate.  Chris told me about his Dad passing away . I am so sorry .I know that this must be a difficult time .Our heart , love and prayers go out to you and your family .

During the 30 years that we knew Ralph, he was a great friend to our whole family. He was always there with his sense of humor, his shoulder to lean on, his words of wisdom and most of all, his love of family and friends. Ralph was a good example of the importance of education, hard work and community involvement for our sons. They respected him and loved him. We have a lot of memories of our years with Ralph - all the political campaigns, working fireworks season, playing pinochle, cleaning shrimp at the cabin, even the sage advice about not putting waxed bananas on a radiator. That's still one of my favorite Ralphisms. Ralph was the brother I never had, a great friend that we did have, and he'll always be a part of our lives.

Your contributions to the South San Antonio School District as well as your untiring effort in the political arena of the Southwest side of San Antonio will be missed. However, your legacy in these areas will live forever. Others have already followed your lead and that is a testament to your hard work, love and devotion. May God and Jesus Christ welcome you as the good man you are.

Mr. Rich was a South San Icon. I cannot think back to my days at Dwight Jr. High and South San High School without remembering Mr. Rich. Senior '73

Many fond memories exist of Ralph and his antics. He was a solid member of the Boy Scout Troop, faithful and one who could be counted on at all times. 
He was a leader. A very good friend. 
Our loss is Heaven's gain.

I thank Mr. Rich for serving as a South San Antonio school board member for twelve years. If not for Mr. Rich personally visiting with me within a couple of weeks after I dropped out of the eleventh grade, I would not have returned to school or graduated. Mr. Ralph Rich cared about my welfare and took a personal interest in me during a very difficult time in my adolescence years when no one else seemed to care. Because of Mr. Rich's interventon in my life, I not only graduated from high school in 1973 but have also received one degree in engineering, another in religious education, have written a recently published book and now serve as a church planter, pastor and CEO of a Christian book publishing company. Some of the fondest memories of my life are of Uncle Ralph and Auntie Jean with her Sister, my Nana, at the cabin. 
I would sit on Uncle Ralp's lap and ask if I could come back next summer and he would hold up my hands and say "Honey you can come back next summer and the next and the next!" So I would go home, hold both my hands up to my Mom and say "Uncle Ralph said I can go back this many times" 
I am so happy that they had that place as it brought all of us together. 
How could it not be great when the cabin was owned by the two sweetest and most fun people in the world!!!! 
I hope my husband of 2 years and I have one half the life and love that Auntie Jean and Uncle Ralph did.

I didn't get to see Uncle Ralph as much as I would have liked, but every time I did, he made a point of letting me know that he expected big things of me. Whether at the farm, or anywhere else, he always took me aside and asked how I was doing and then talked to me. I know he was a great guy, and I will miss him in my heart.

Dear Uncle Ralph You will be remembered fondly as a loving husband and father. Also for the great support and care you provided to many in your community. I only wish that I had known you when I was older and that I could have come to visit you and Auntie Jean more recently. However, I will always have memories of our visit to see you all when I was 6 years old. I remember lots of fur, pompoms, key rings and a lovely fur patchwork bag that you gave me. It's funny how you think you've forgotten something and when you think about it, it's like it was only yesterday. You will always be in our hearts and minds. although we haven't met for over 10 years and I only spent 3 weeks with you and Jean I would like to think that we became good friends. We sat and chatted for hours in the evenings out on the deck putting the world to rights. I had hoped that we would meet again but that is not to be and I know that you would have got on so well with Robin. You were always very generous and we were so excited when our packages arrived from the States .

Oh how much we will miss him and yes, even though we are so many, many miles away! There passes a true gentleman in every sense of the word. God bless him and all our love to you, our American family!

Uncle Ralph was not only a family member... he was a comfort and joy to be around, a friend, a roll modle, support, and a wonderful story teller. He was one man that i truly loved, i thought of him as almost a fatherly figure. I will truly miss him but will never forget him. I will love him and all of my family in TX, always. From the bottom of my heart i wish he knew how thankful i was for all the wisdom and lessons he had taugh me. Although we only spent a small amount of our lives together, that time i will cherish forever.

My absolute favorite memory of Uncle Ralph took place in our farm market. I was a 13 year old teenager, and he was determined to cultivate my unique talents, and teach me a thing or two about sales! We went for a tractor ride and found cattails on the banks of the farms ponds. On our way back to the market, he drove while I carried armfuls of cattails. As we passed our home, he pulled in the drive, got off the tractor, and returned with a large vase and several rusty cans of spray paint. He said, "Your Uncle Ralph is going to teach you how to sell the hair off of a cats' ass", and we went to work spray painting cattails in a variety of colors. We hand-painted a sign that read, "RARE, AUTHENTIC, DRIED FLOWERS FOR SALE, 25 CENTS EACH, OR 6 FOR $1.00". Each time one or 6 sold, he and my mom laughed hysterically!! Every time he lovingly encouraged railroaded me into offering the special, I started laughing and he had to finish the sales pitch! Finally, I wet my pants from laughing, and he gave up on my selling ability. When the store closed, he handed me $10.00 and said that my talents were better suited for the fields!! My heart will settle for nothing less than knowing that my Uncle Ralph is now living "happily ever after" with my dad, Aunt Julia, and Aunt Didi! Today, I accept this as the end result of living one day at a time, enjoying life, loving, and being loved. Our family has a history together. The whole tapestry, woven out of love and shared memories will keep us close forever. We all share love and joy, sorrow and pain. It is my hope that as a family, we continue to enjoy the good times, and help each other through the difficult ones as much as possible. Each time I think of Uncle Ralph, my heart is flooded with great memories. I am reminded of all the laughter and fun, and remain so greatful for the wisdom, strength, and hope he shared with me. Our bond will be everlasting...

Bull Rich was an inspiration to me many years ago, and his memory has always been with me. I worked for him, and with him. I went on temporary duty with him, and listened to some of his innermost thoughts. We drank lots of beer together; we laughed a lot; and I very much enjoyed this buoyant, effervescent man. He was a true leader, and there are many who owe their success to his leadership abilities. I am a much better person, having known and been inspired by him.

We were very sorry to hear of your loss. Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Ralph was a wonderful man who gave our family support and we are greatful for all that he did for us. We know he touched many people's lives and he will be truly missed.

The Garcia family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Rich family for all the kindnesses they extended to us during hard times. Mrs. Garcia worked for Mr. and Mrs. Rich for more than 30 years and because of their financial support and emotional guidance, she was able help our beloved father raise a family of 10 children. Although she worked for the family, Mrs. Garcia was always thought of as a member of the Rich family and was deeply trusted by them. Due to their generosity, all of us graduated from high school and have obtained good jobs in different fields. 
We extend our deepest condolences to Mrs. Rich and her family during this very difficult time.

I've had the pleasure to know Mr. Rich's son Chris for several years, and early in our friendship had the opportunity to meet Mr. Rich. He was an engaging host for our Northwestern State University basketball team at a little hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant in San Antonio called Piedras Negras, I believe. We walked in and we were the only non-Hispanics in the place - a sure sign that it was going to be great food. Better than the food was the company of our host. We all - coaches, players and the rest of us - were thoroughly entertained by Mr. Rich, a gracious man and also a doting grandfather. All of Chris' friends at Northwestern send their prayers to the Rich family at this difficult time.

Jean, my deepest sympathy to you and your family. I worked for Bull in SCP-3 in the early sixties, and also worked with him and Red in their furniture business. Also played football for him. He was a fine man, and he taught me many things in the survival wars of the intel business.

Ralph is a hero of our entire family. I am 39 years old and have known him since I played Little League at Gateway. I always listened to what Ralph had to say about politics because he was right almost all of the time. Ralph was a man of integrity. I wish there were more like him. We will miss him.

Dear Ms. Rich: I wish there was something I could write that would help with your grief. I met your husband once while on a road trip with Northwestern State Univ. basketball team. Your son, Chris, is a close friend and our team physician. I don't know what kind of relationship Chris had with his dad, but if he influenced him just a little he did an outstanding job.
