

Ralph Eugene Thompson peacefully passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014 in San Antonio. He was born September 23, 1927 to William Sherman and Emily Thompson in LaSalle, Illinois, then the family moved to Ft. Worth, Texas.
Thompson served in the Navy and Air Force during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He retired from the military in 1966 to pursue a career in Radio, Television and Public Relations. During the early 1970's, Thompson served as City Commissioner and Mayor of the city of Harlingen, Texas. During this time he was also associated with KGBT television. From 1976 to 1982 he was Executive Director of the South Padre Island Tourist Bureau. From 1982 until 1988 he served as Director of Public Information for the Lower Colorado River Authority in Austin, TX. In 1988, he established Thompson Resume Service in San Antonio.
He later became affiliated with KDRY Christian Radio as an on-air personality.
When Toyota-Texas announced the opening of a new plant, he was a proctor with San Antonio College conducting pre employment seminars until retirement in 2008. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lange Thompson, Gordon Thompson and Willard Thompson.
Survivors include Patricia, his devoted loving wife of 36 years; brothers, Kenneth Thompson (Bobbie) and Robert "Scottie" Freebairn (Carol); daughters, Pamela Wilson and Glenda Sullivan and grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services and interment are private.
